Tutorial 1: Personality - MBTI Quick Group Exercises

To get the maximum value from this session, please complete one of the
personality questionnaires provided on the moodle page.

There is nothing scientific about this, the purpose of the exercise is to


enable you to come to an overall view about whether your responses to
the various scenarios broadly fits in with your personality
type/classification.

1. Extraversion-Introversion: ideal work environment

Either based on your questionnaire results or the information about the 4


main personality types contained in the tutorial slides, do you come out as
more of an extrovert than an introvert?

For example, what is your ideal work environment? In what sort of work
setting do you feel most productive? For example open plan vs small
office, large vs small team, customer facing vs ‘behind the scenes’?

To what extent does your response correspond with where you sit in the
E/I continuum?

2. Sensing - Intuition: tell me about an apple…

Using the same process as for task 1, but this time the task is to think
about an apple: what thoughts come into your head? Make a few notes on
a piece of paper. does an

3. Thinking - Feeling: helping a friend

This time, did you come into the T or F category?

To follow up on this, the scenario here is that a friend has telephoned you
to say that they have just arrived home to find out their flat has been
broken into. They have asked you to come round and help. How would
you help your friend?

Compare the differences in your groups. How much of a correlation is


there between your responses and your designated personality type in
this area?

4. Judging –Perceiving: going on holiday

Finally, within your group, how you prepare to go on holiday. What are
your priorities? How much advance planning do you do?

when tested against these scenarios?
