Ethics Statement

As an individual who works with young children, I commit myself to furthering the values of early childhood education
as they are reflected in the ideals and principles of the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct. I acknowledge a willingness to embrace
the distinctive values and moral obligations of the field of early childhood care and education.

Caring

People with this disposition display kindness and concern for others.

 Passion – Demonstrates interest, enthusiasm and optimism for the people, content, and context of the
teaching/learning process.

I believe I have the passion needed to be a quality teacher. All my life I have been driven by my strong belief that
every child should have access to a high-quality education. Education changes lives. No child should be denied the life-changing
experience of a great education.

I am aware of the importance of education in a student’s life, and I hope to establish and maintain a learning
environment where students can learn from their mistakes. I hope my enthusiasm encourages active learning and promotes
intellectual and moral development. I believe that I show affection and respect for my students taking interest in their
knowledge and ideas.

 Patience – Demonstrates ability to understand children’s behaviors and is tolerant, caring and understanding of
developmental abilities of children.

I believe that it is important to remember that relationships take time. As a teacher you need to take time to get to
know your students and be patient with how you interact with them. All kids need to trust the people around them and
develop a sense of security before they can be ready to learn.

Deep learning requires patience from the teacher to allow for independence and responsibility. We need to remember
that there is a lot to learn, and everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way.

Communication

The successful conveying or sharing of ideas and feelings.

 Responsiveness – Attentive to others’ needs; the ability and inclination to act as best meets the needs, asks supervisor
if unsure of how to respond; when appropriate advocates for needs of children and families.

A fundamental belief in the ability of all students to learn. Educators must have high expectations for every student,
accompanied by a set of positive attitudes about them. We need to remember to develop a student-centered mindset, it’s about
the kids not us making sure to pay close attention to individual students’ progress and adjust our approaches throughout the
year

How we teach is as important as what we teach focusing on helping students develop their academic, social, and
emotional skills in a learning environment that is developmentally responsive to their strengths and needs.
When caring for anybody it is important to meet their needs to benefit the interactions.

 Attentiveness – Concentrates on others communication; takes others’ communication into account

As an educator in early childhood, it is vital to be needful of the comfort of others, watching and listening carefully.
This will help build great communication lines allowing the child to feel at home in the classroom. The most effective people
are those who give their undivided attention to the people, problems, opportunities, and moments that come into their life.

Creative

The use of the imagination or original ideas

 Flexibility - Adapts, adjusts and modifies practices to meet the needs of children and peers; thinks on one’s feet; is
comfortable with change; willing to take risks.

I view myself as very open minded and flexible, especially when it comes to working with children. It is very important
to plan around the needs and interests of the children. Research shows that children learn best when the classroom is child led.
You see more engagement and better behaviors. When a classroom is child led being flexible is important because children’s
attention spans are still growing and they will be interested in multiple different things.
I believe having this quality benefits me when working with a child who has special needs. My schedule is never the
same when working with her I have to be flexible and adapt myself to her needs.

 Resourcefulness – Utilizes resources in effective ways; adapts practices to unforeseen challenges.

Resourcefulness is defined as the ability and creativity to cope with difficulties. I feel resourcefulness is being
creative. It means achieving goals by finding and using the things you have at hand. By creating a dedicated space in the
classroom that's stocked with useful tools and materials, students can experiment, overcome challenges and make connections
by using what's available to them.

Critical

The ability to examine closely, to critique, and to ask questions.

 Initiative: Exhibits a willingness to pursue solutions to problems or questions; participates and takes initiative in
classroom routines; and persistently seeks to improve situations or personal areas of need.

Take initiative by looking for opportunities for improvement. Show initiative by recognizing and working to solve
problems. By actively addressing issues, you can help improve the learning experience as a whole. Explore the principles and
standards to better myself as a professional and educator. It is important to me to be a knowledgeable source of information
to the families I serve.

You can be proactive by anticipating what work needs to be done, using your knowledge of the job to determine whether you
have the competencies to make decisions on your own or whether you should present your ideas to your supervisors before
proceeding.

I need to take it upon myself to explore the principles and standards to better myself as a professional and educator. It is
important to me to be a knowledgeable source of information to the families I serve.

 Open-mindedness: Exhibits an ability to look at different sides of an issue; recognizes the possibility of error in
one’s own beliefs and practices; does not display or act upon prejudices against people or ideas.

I think of myself as being open-minded. I have always been told I am a good listener. Being a good listener, you need to
have an open mind and a willingness to compromise.
For example, when conducting a learning opportunity, it is important to be aware of how the children are
understanding the learning opportunity and what their interests are. If the learning opportunity takes a different route, I
need to be able to follow their lead.
Professional Requirements

These are qualities and practices that people must exhibit in order to be recommended for employment

 Personal and Professional Ethics and Integrity – Adheres strongly to high moral principles and ethical standards as
expressed in the NAEYC Code of Ethics; demonstrates integrity and confidentiality.

I think of myself as a professional person. When I am working with children, I present myself appropriately and
professionally. I am always making sure I have my materials ready and available for any learning experience I have organized
for children. I am conscious that my appearance is appropriate for a classroom setting. I make sure I have a caring disposition
to serve all children to the best of my ability.

 Work Ethic/Responsibility – Attends to center/school policy for teacher attendance; completes teaching related tasks
in a thorough and efficient manner.

I have always had the idea that why be present if you are not going to participate. My job is taking care of others and that
requires me to show up not just be there. Their families are counting on me to take good care of them and they have their trust
in me, with that I need to be responsible.

I am very passionate in the sense that I believe all children deserve a meaningful environment in which they can learn,
create, and discover their interests. I believe it is important as educators to always be knowledgeable in the current research.
I am eager to be in a career that is giving me the opportunity to grow along with the children in my care.
