Characteristics of a Public Health Nutritionist in the Philippines
a. A citizen of the Philippines or of an foreign country/state which has a policy or
law on reciprocity for Filipinos relative to the practice of nutrition and dietetics. (jean)
b. Academic Qualification
1) “A holder of bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics or its equivalent
which is duly recognized or accredited by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and conferred by a school/college/university, whether here or abroad, duly authorized by the government” (NDAP Foundation, 2018). (naiomi)
2) Has acquired the following competencies in public health nutrition/community
nutrition (CMO 54, s.2006): (sam [a-g] and ven [h-n])
a) Identified existing nutrition problems in different settings;
b) Planned appropriate nutrition programs/projects including financial requirements for a given target group/area; c) Coordinated ,implemented, and monitored nutrition programs/projects; d) Evaluated the results of nutrition programs/projects e) Documented and reported nutrition programs/projects; f) Networked with existing health and nutrition delivery services and related programs to bring about the desired change; g) Participated in advocacy efforts; h) Planned and conducted studies related to public health nutrition; i) Wrote and presented a technical report on studies conducted; j) Utilized results of studies in the conduct of nutrition programs/projects; k) Selected, planned, prepared, and assessed effective nutrition teaching-learning activities including teaching aids and materials appropriate for various audiences; l) Participated in continuing education activities relevant to the discharge of responsibilities in public health nutrition; m) Carried out day-to-day tasks in an ethical manner and n) Manifested good interpersonal relations, self-confidence and maturity in all endeavors
3) A passer of the board examination for nutritionist-dietitians administered by
the Board of Dietetics under the provisions of Republic Act (R.A.) 10862 entitled “An Act Regulating the Practice of Nutrition and Dietetics in the Philippines, repealing for the Purpose Presidential Decree No. 1286, known as the Nutrition and Dietetics Decree if 1977, Appropriating Funds Therefor and for Other Purposes”.
