Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi also known as MS


Subbulakshmi (16 September 1916) was an classical and
semi-classical Carnatic singer, actress from Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
She started learning Carnatic music at an early age and later in
Hindustani classical training
Her first recording was released when she was 10 years old.
Subbulakshmi gave her first performance at Madras Music Academy
when she was 13 years old.
In old days, women are not followed to sing on stage.She was a true
pioneer of women empowerment. showed the way to contemporary
women of her era.
She was the First Indian who performed in United Nations General
Assembly in 1966. Song called maithreem bhajatha ( for world
peace)
Some of her most famous works include ‘Suprabhatam’ ,
‘Bhajagovindam’ , ‘Kurai OnrumIllai’ , ‘Vishnu Sahasranamam’,
‘Hanuman Chalisa’ etc.
She was the first musician ever to be awarded the Bharat Ratna,
India's highest civilian honour , Ramon Magsaysay award and few
more
