Unusual jobs
Exploring unique job opportunities

A. Do you find it hard to get up for work every day? Would you like to stay in bed all day long? Well, bed designers,
mattress and bedding manufacturers, and luxury hotels need your skills. You will be paid to take naps, testing out
sleep quality, comfort levels, and room conditions. A hotel in Finland was looking for a professional sleeper to test
out their thirty-five rooms. The lucky candidate moved from room to room and wrote down their thoughts and
experiences. This was then turned into a blog and posted on their website to attract future customers.

B. Do you get impatient and frustrated waiting in a queue? Then this job is not for you. The position involves standing
in a queue on behalf of someone who is either too busy or just doesn’t want to do it themselves. You could end
up waiting for tickets, a film release, or the latest iPhone. There are websites and apps for booking professional
queuers. You just describe your task and browse trusted queuers by skills, reviews, and price. Confirm the details
with them and let them do all the work.

C. Do you have a four-legged friend? How far would you go to provide the best healthy food available for them?
Would you become a dog food tester? The position involves evaluating the nutritional value, texture, smell, and
of course taste of different food products. But don’t worry, most testers don’t swallow the food. Other than
tasting the different samples, tasters write reports and think about how to improve the recipe to make them more
nutritious and appealing for both dogs and owners.

D. Do you love watching Netflix? Would you like to get paid to see all your favourite shows and films from the
comfort of your home? Well, there is a job that allows you to do this but involves more than just sitting back
with a bowl of popcorn. Netflix recruits people to review, rate and analyse content but applicants have to have
extensive knowledge and experience in the film and television industry and be proficient in a language other than
English.

E. Do you enjoy giving or receiving hugs? Could you do it for a job? Professional cuddlers are required to listen and
encourage people while providing a comforting hug. You could be helping someone who may be suffering from
loneliness, a past trauma, depression or someone who is simply in need of an extra cuddle. Professional cuddlers
build up a trusted clientele and can work from anywhere. They are expected to take a short online course before
starting and follow a code of conduct.

F. Are you creative and enjoy writing? You might enjoy working as a fortune cookie writer. Fortune cookie
manufacturers hire freelancers to come up with clever, and wise words for customers to enjoy when they open
their cookies. The sayings are usually only one or two sentences, so writers need to be concise. They are usually
inspiring quotes, predictions or common expressions which highlight valuable truths about life.
