The tiles may be of 20 x 20 cm or 30 x 30cm nominal size, having actual size 19.85 x 19.85 cm or 29.85 x 29.85 cm. The mosaic layer consists of 6 mm thickness over a cement concrete bottom layer of 20 mm to 25 mm thickness. The tiles are iaid over 12 mm to 20 mm lime mortar (IS - 1443) over a sub-base of lime concrete or weak cement concrete. After lime mortar is laid hardened sufficiently, a thin layer of cement Paste (of honey like consistency) of about 1.5 mm thickness is spread and then the tiles are laid with vertical joints of 1 mm to 1.5 mm thickness which are filled with the same cement paste.
