CHAPTER THREE

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.0 Introduction

This chapter presents the description of the procedures that was used in carrying
out this study.

This chapter is up to the following sub-headings:

 Reliability of the Instrument

 Administration of the Instrument

 Method of Data Analysis

3.1 Design of the study

This study is a descriptive survey design to investigate the medium scale

entrepreneur assessment of business competency required of business education

graduate for job performance in Onitsha Urban. According to Wikipedia (2004)

descriptive survey design intends to summarize charts and table but do not

attempted to draw conclusion about the population from which sample was taken.
The survey design is considered most suitable for the study because it permit the

collection of original data from the respondent.

3.3 Population of the Study

The population of the study consist of 86 accountants in 10 medium scale

registered company in Onitsha Urban as at February 2018.

SAMPLE AND SAMPLE TECHNIQUE

Out of 86 medium enterprises in Onitsha Urban sampling techniques will be

used to select forty three (43) out of the population. Ten (10) accountant will be

randomly sample from the (43) people making a sample size of 86.

Instrument for Data Collection

The instrument for data will be questionnaire.

Medium scale entrepreneur assessment of business competency required of

business education graduate for job performance in Onitsha Urban.

The question consists of two sessions.

Section A and section B. Section A will comprise information regarding the

personal data of the respondents.

Such as gender, location and education qualification section B will contain items

build in four clusters, location and education qualification section B will contain

items build in four clusters 1-4.

A four-point rating scale will be providing for the respondents to indicate the

strength of their opinion as follows:

Strongly Agreed (SA) 2

Agreed (A) 1

Disagreed (D) 1

Strongly Disagreed (SD) 1


For the clusters addressed entrepreneur assessment of business competency

required of business education graduate for job performance.

Validity of the Instrument

The instrument was validated by two lecturers at Federal College of Education

Technical. Their observation was carried out well.

Reliability of the Instrument

To determine the internal consistency of the instrument, the questionnaire was

subjected to 10 accountants in Nnewi.

Administration of the Instrument

The researcher adopts two and the research assistants to help in administrating the

questionnaire on the respondent and instruct them on how to fill the questionnaires.

The use of these research assistants help to ensure that the actual respondents for

whom the instrument was meant for were indeed those who completed them.

Method of Data Analysis

The data collected was presented in a tabulated form with focus on the major

research questions in order to enable the researcher determine the results. Data

collected for research question were analyzed by the use of simple percentage

analysis. The following formular was applied.
