1 Executive Summary and Title

The project focuses on a company located at Hyderabad, India. The business is B2B and deals
in the segment of protection of critical assets like transformers, motors, and generators.
The major business issues that the organization is facing are related to a very nominal profit
due to a large number of inventory stocks and efficient mapping of protective devices.
The issues will be addressed by analyzing the data via different analytical approaches to obtain
a fruitful outcome. (Describe some of the approaches that you are planning to replicate in your
project.)
The expected outcome helps the organization reduce the money blockage in terms of inventory,
which helps increase the profitability of the organization.

2 Organization Background

The company that I am working with is RUGGED MONITORING; which is a for-profit

corporation and deals with condition monitoring of critical assets like Transformers, Motors
and Generators and the service is based in, Quebec City, Canada. Rugged Monitoring brings
in the most innovative products and services to perform real-time comprehensive monitoring
of electrical assets across various industries. They are an industry leading team of asset
condition monitoring experts with 100+ years of combined experience, and are committed to
deliver customizable solutions for challenging applications. Their solutions are designed
accurately with extreme care to enhance the operating efficiency and lifetime of the electrical
assets by identifying the faults before there is any serious breakdown. The major products are
Monitors, Sensors and has an Enterprise Software called RM Eye.

3 Problem Statement

The major issue comes with the cost cutting and supply chain. For cost cutting efficient
manufacturing methods are to be employed. The company faces huge competition in market so they
need to innovate on their technologies. To handle the complex software and ecosystem, efficient
and knowledgably employees are less in India. The employees are to be trained so training cost and
acquisition cost also increases. Indian market is too early for this innovation so that is also a
challenge the company currently faces.

4 Background of the Problem

Major cause of problems are the complexity of the software, also this innovation is too new. The
cost of the monitoring also involves huge expenditure. The market cap is also small. Though India
provides cheap labor but there is huge lack of skilled labors so the company has to spend huge
amount to train the employees. Effective supply chain management is crucial for ensuring the timely
and cost-efficient delivery of products to customers. Any issues or inefficiencies in the supply chain
can impact both costs and customer satisfaction.

Internal problems are operational costs. The company is looking to reduce its operational costs. This
might include optimizing its manufacturing processes to make them more efficient and cost-
effective. Cost cutting is often a priority for businesses to improve profitability. The Indian market is
still in the early stages for the kind of innovation the company wants to introduce. This can present
challenges in terms of market acceptance, competition, and potentially longer timeframes for
achieving returns on investment.

External problems are Indian markets are too early for adopting modern technologies such as
condition monitoring since the technology is quite expensive for Indian and African markets. Indian
market primarily relies on traditional and cheap protective devices.

5 Problem Solving Approach (400 Words)

1. Assess Current State:

o Begin by conducting a thorough assessment of the current state of the
business, focusing on cost structures, supply chain processes, technology
stack, and employee skillsets. Gather relevant data and metrics to gain a clear
understanding of the existing challenges.
2. Define Clear Objectives:
o Clearly define the objectives and goals of the data management and data
science project. These objectives should align with addressing the issues
mentioned in the problem statement. For example, improving cost-efficiency,
optimizing the supply chain, enhancing employee expertise, and fostering
technological innovation.
3. Data Collection and Integration:
o Gather relevant data from various sources within the organization, such as
sales data, production data, supply chain data, and employee performance
metrics. Ensure the integration of these diverse data sources to create a unified
data repository.
4. Data Analysis and Modelling:
o Utilize data science techniques and tools to analyse the collected data.
Develop predictive models to identify cost-saving opportunities, optimize
supply chain operations, and identify areas where technology can drive
innovation. Machine learning and statistical analysis can be valuable in this
phase.
5. Employee Training and Development:
o Invest in employee training programs to bridge the knowledge gap mentioned
in the problem statement. Develop customized training modules that focus on
the specific skills required for managing complex software and data
ecosystems. Consider partnering with educational institutions or training
providers if necessary.
6. Technological Innovation:
o Foster a culture of innovation within the organization by setting up dedicated
R&D teams or innovation labs. Encourage employees to explore and
experiment with emerging technologies relevant to the industry. Allocate a
portion of the budget to research and development efforts.
7. Supply Chain Optimization:
o Apply data-driven insights to optimize the supply chain. Implement inventory
management systems, demand forecasting models, and logistics optimization
tools to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Collaborate closely with
suppliers and partners to streamline processes.
8. Market Analysis and Strategy:
o Conduct a thorough market analysis to understand the unique dynamics of the
Indian market. Tailor your innovation strategy to meet the specific needs and
preferences of the target audience. Monitor market trends and adapt the
business strategy accordingly.
9. Continuous Monitoring and Improvement:

5
o Implement robust data monitoring and reporting systems to track progress
toward achieving the defined objectives. Regularly review the results of data
analysis and adjust strategies as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
10. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
o Encourage collaboration between different departments within the
organization, such as IT, operations, marketing, and HR. A cross-functional
approach is crucial for the successful execution of a data-driven project.
11. Budget Allocation and Resource Management:
o Allocate budget and resources strategically, ensuring that investments align
with project priorities and expected outcomes. Regularly review budget
allocation to make necessary adjustments.
