This is done by custom-configuring the MGD (Mult!-Generational Data Acquisition) subsystem. Emulation of MGD hardware, or functionality, is accomplished by editing the mgd_stage file. Emulation allows the system to run without specific hardware present, or specific functions activated; this may be helpful for problem isolation, After editing this file, the emulation selections are applied to the system by downloading the TPS. After emulation is complete, the original mgd_stage file must be restored, and TPS downloaded to restore normal Signa Excite functions, 2 Customizing the MGD_Stage File ‘Some of the MGD functions and hardware controlled by the MGD can be emulated by using the gedit or vi text editor to modify the mgd_stage file. Gedit is an easy-to-use text editor (and is the recommended tool to use), and vi is a command-based éditor, ‘The mgd_stage file is located in the /wiconfig directory. The first line in the file is the only one that is executed. The rest of the file text contains comments, plus a complete description of each emulation command. This same information appears in Illustration 4 To customize the mgd_stage file: 1. From the Service Desktop, select [C Shell] 2. At the sde prompt, type: and press , 3, To edit the file, type either of these two options at the prompt © and press , or © and press 4. The Stage menu is displayed (see Table 1). Type the command letter(s) for the hardware you want to emulate after the a at the top of the file, Mlustration 1: MGD_STAGE EMULATION COMMANDS: (Sheet 1 of 3 RERRSTEINS ff everything from here down is comment, fehen the Letter Listed below is present in the first Line (following the ‘a', the corresponding device is emulated, as described below (Note these ARE sensitive) emulate PAC. This command cavsse the SPU to generate canned cardise and respiratory waveforns and to generate cardiac triggers. This should be used when no PAG is present, or if no cardiac simmlator is available. emulate System Monitoring. ‘This comand disables monitoring of the POU status, RF Moor, and Coil overtenp. Commands are still sent to the IRE, eo the alignment lights, fan, and bore Lights will etill work if the TRF is connected enulate IWS-PC. ‘This disables the SCP to IUS-P0 interfeee. If this is Gone the start scan, stop scan, pause scan, adv to scan, stop table buttons on the IVS keyboard vill not work.’ also, the scen tine will not be displayed on the 1WS-PC Ltn, and the vaveform displays vill rot work, thie ehould be used to allow scanning to continue if the SOP to LWS-Bo link is net functioning correctly. If the WIM is configared out, ‘this option will exulated the keyboard, emulate T/R driver, When this is emulated, the SOP vill not send commands to tho I/R driver and dynanis disable board, and vill not monitor ite state. Therefore, scanning vill be alloved no matter whet the state of the board, This shoald never be done if pulsing vith RF unless hardware jumpers have been used to set the beard to the desired node. emulate CAN T/R driver. When this is emulated, the SOP vill no sonitor the DCB board or set any values to it. It will also not initialize it as a valid node en’ the CANopen network emulate IRE. hen this is emulated, the SCP vill not moniter the IRE for errors. Aay errors detected by the IRF vill not he logged and will not stop the scan If the IAF board is not detected, an error ELL not be logged and erarming vill not be snhibited The TNS will loo be emulated 4£ IRF is emulated. emulate grediont anpe, When thio ie emulated, the scP vill not cond command: to the gradient amplifier, and vill not monitor its state. Therefore, the gradient amps vill Stay in standby, ard ne gradient waveforns will be put out. the gradient configuration vill etilL be downloaded, Real tine monitoring will not be performed if enabled in the MRconfig.cfg file. “Ie the system has GRAM's, then dicital, tuning values Will still he dovnloaded if digital tuning boards are selected in the MRoonfig. cfg file, enulate RF amp(s). When this is emulated, the SoP will not send commande to the RF aiplifiers (ERBTEC nartow bané and spectrescopy's ENE broed band), and ScP will not monitor thei state. Therefore, the ERBIEG FP ap will stay in standby, and no RP vill be put out. ‘The ENT amp has no standby state, and therefore vill put out RF, but the correct filter will aot be set. (Sheet 2 of 3 emulate power nonitor, This ie meant te be used only on test eystens where mo pover nonitor i present. Tt disables SCP fron cending out the proper pover nonitor settings selected by the PSE. If this is emlated vhen a Power monitor is present, it vill cause the power monitor to trip as soon as the scan/prescan hegins. This vill net Fix AF anp 8 faults, ut will instead cause then, emulate entire CAN network. This disables commumicetion to all devices an ‘the CAN Link. It vill not setup the CAN PUC hoard snd this all of the devices on the CAN link vill not communicate on the Link, emulate CAN RRE-DIF DSP's. This disables commmications to the CAN DSP's ‘on the MRE-DIF hoards. the RNP-BIF TPOA's will not be reset during a Rs Reset under thie condition. emulate INS. This disables setup of the TNS board, counting, and THs Logeing. emulate entire MMS. This disables communication to all devices on the MOS link Tt is equivalent to emlating all of the folloving: gradient anps, RF anp, T/R driver, pover xonitor, and TA 1, except that in this case the alignment Lights, fan, and bore licht will not work emulate Shin CAN node. This disables conmmications to the CaN DSP ‘on the shin Supply. The shin currents vill not he updated by the host under thie condition. @isable reporting of gradient overloads. Normally, overloads of the Gradient Driver Subaysten are reported te the error log. If this Flag is set then overloads will not be reported. This hes no effect, ‘on scan operation. enulate the peripheral pulse signal fron the PAC. this connand ‘oauees the SPU t2 generace a canted plothyencgrah waveform and to generate PP triggers. This should be used when no PAC is present, and only with the Vi option, emulate SRI, thie dissbles SoP communication to the SRI, Tt disables nage’. shroud snconciatoce, the scan tine display, and Landwacking ‘The alignment Mghts, fay. and hore light will net vork. However, 3f the SRI hss had code downloaded at Lesst ance, thea table positioning will still. work. emulate hore wall temperatuce sensor. ‘This is neant only for test ‘systens hich do not have a temperature sensor, emulate table. This emates SRI cradle control. therefore, the table positioning will not vork. This elininates the reed to establish BP Lendnaek Gicable watohdegging. During normal oporation, both the SCT and SoP aro vatchdogged, ‘90 that if they hang, or go crasy., that ary scan in Progress will he stopped, and a 4PS reset vill he performed. Gicable SRI errors. This allows SoP_to send comands to the SRT, but any errors experienced by the SRI vill be igaored, and scanning vill be alloved to continue: Gicable gradient excore. This allove StP to send commande to the gradient ‘anplifier (standby, ready, etc.) However, the state of the gradient anpe is not monitored. Any gradient error that cceure will nat be Feperted or recovered. Thie feature is enly valid with e607 gradient, amplifiers. (Sheet 3 of 3 2 -> enable watchdog debug mode. When watchdogging is encbled, this will cause SOP not ta he reset if a watehdag acenrs. ‘This is meant to he used by softvare engineering to track don the souree of the watchdog. a -> dumy place holder e => emilate gradient ange just 22 '0' dove above, If this emulation is selected, the SOP vill etill send the ECC values to the gradient anps for testing, g ~? Aioable gradion’ processor opplication loading. The ScP vill not lead the application if this enulation is selected, vhich can take 10 minutes bo complete, -> disble UPN This vill disable the pover monitoring of the CAN Pover Monitor Poo Sand vill allow scanning without the presence of the pover nonitor W -> emulate WHOLE-BODY gradient of THY. The systen vill be restricted to @irect connection to Z00K gradient without the geadient switeh. ote: After renoving this flag, Restore Info in Guided Inetall must be perfcened. = => emlate 200K gradient of TRH, The oysten vill be restricted to Girect connection to WHOLE-BOOY gtadient vithout the gradient eviteh, Note: After renoving this flag, Restore Info in Guided Install must he performed EXMIPLE: If the first Line of this file read: save then Table control would be emulated, gradient errors would be dissbled, and watchdog debug node would be ensbled. If the firot Line of this file read: ‘Then nothing would be emulated or disabled at all, this is nornal product configuration / software note: these letter options should mirror CFG_STRING in hpc_cfg.h */ 2.1 Applying Emulation Choices 1. To apply the emulation choices, save and exit the changed file. 2. Select [TPS Reset] There are two ways to do this: ‘+ From the Service Desktop Manager, select the [TPS Reset] button, or + From the Service Desktop Manager, click on the [Service Browser] button, as shown in illustration 2, On the ‘Common Service Desktop, select the Utilities tab. On the menu at the left, select TPS Reset (see lustration 3), When the prompt “Do you really want to reset TPS?" appears in the right pane of the Common Service Desktop (or "WARNING: TPS Reset?" in the Service Desktop Manager), click the [Yes] button. Mlustration 2: Location of the Service Browser Button ———- Click the Service Browser button Select TPS Reset 2.2 MGD_Stage Emulation Commands The letter a in the first line is a place holder and should not be deleted. The capital letters (commands are case- sensitive), which represent the desired commands, are entered immediately after (no space) the a place holder on the first line, After you save and exit the changed file, the TPSIISE is reset to invoke the emulation. For example: + Ifthe first line of this file reads: ATYz, then table control would be emulated, gradient errors would be disabled, and the watchdog debug mode would be enabled. + Ifthe first line of this file reads: a, then nothing would be emulated or disabled at all. This is the normal product configuration. 3 Restoration of Normal MGD Functions Following completion of emulation, the mgd_stage file must be edited back to its original state using a text editor. This file is located in the /w/config directory. 1. To edit the file, enter either of these two options at the prompt: and press . and press 2. Edit the first tine in either file so it only contains the letter = (for example, change 27¥z to a.) 3. After you save and exit the changed file, reset the TPS by selecting [TPS Reset] from under Utilities on the Common Service Desktop. After the TPS is reset, normal Signa function is restored. a back to top
