Computer forensics is the investigation and analysis of computer
devices and systems to find evidence of a crime and arranging it for court. There are many different tools, techniques and procedures that can be used to get appropriate forensics results. This field of study has a long way to go before it is recognized as a fully professional field of study. There needs to be a common curriculum that can be taught at colleges and universities and a standard that can be followed by everyone, to help the evolution of this field of study. This paper describes how the computer forensics field started, why it has stalled and what professionals must do in the future for it to become a recognized field. The paper also went through the process forensic investigators take when performing an investigation and the advantages and disadvantages of doing this.
