Curriculum Action Plan 2

Introduction

From the most fundamental ideas to more advanced abilities, a curriculum is a detailed

framework that students follow. Its stated purpose is to assist students maintain proficiency in the

abilities necessary to succeed academically by standardizing school-wide objectives and

outlining a specific course of action (Williams, 2020).

Curriculum Map

Using a curriculum map, instructors may see what their students are really learning in

class and see how their lessons stack up against those of their peers teaching the same material or

grade. In order to measure how well students have learned and retained material according to the

ASDOE Standards and Benchmarks, our Department of Education developed the Standard Based

Assessment (SBA). Members of many ASDOE departments and classroom instructors from

around the district worked together to develop and refine this standardized test.

The following levels of performance are applicable to this evaluation:

Mastered (90–100%): Achieving exceptional results

Skilled (60% - 89%): Pupils achieve the required levels

Novice (35% - 59%): Students working towards the requirements

Student comprehension of standards is very lacking (0% - 34%).

The outcomes of the students' evaluations form the basis of the academic program's

initiative. Standard Based examinations (SBAs), Stanford Achievement Tests (SATs), and grade-

level examinations were used for this purpose. These evaluations formed the basis of the school's

action plan.

While developing the strategy, we made sure to address all of the kids' weak spots. Both

math and English Language Arts saw a decline in our pupils' 2016 SBA results. As a result, the

ASDOE Community Services Office donated cash, and the administration developed and

launched an after-school program for students in grades 3, 5, and 7. For the most part, after

school programs helped pupils who performed poorly on standardized math and English

language arts assessments.

(TES, 2023).

Differentiate

As a tool for in-class education, the curriculum map allows teachers to break down units

by skill requirements, center the map with curriculum objectives, and then branch out to

additional abilities that students need to acquire. Differentiation strategies such as small group

exercises, projects, think-pair-share, and others may be included into the lessons utilizing this

guidance to concentrate on certain abilities (Nieves, 2018).

By using these techniques, kids are able to communicate more effectively and attain their

full potential. If a parent wants to seek make-up work because the child is sick, they may talk to

their child's teacher about it. At the start of this school year, instructors and students were given

chromebooks to utilize with Google Classroom. The school's attempts to help students show how

seriously it takes their support.

Curriculum Map Strengths

Curriculum maps at this school highlight several positive aspects, such as the use of a

variety of strategies to meet students' needs, the incorporation of accommodations into Individual

Education Programs (IEPs), and the generalization of academic achievement. Innovative

educators in the classroom employ a wide range of digital resources, such as K–12 college and

career preparedness solutions (such as Coding), to help kids choose majors and programs that are

a good fit for them after high school. One popular platform for K-12 education is Nearpodas,

which provides students with interactive lessons, videos, and formative assessments. The

educational strategy used by the institution is, on the whole, thorough and efficient.

Gaps

Because of the wide range of subjects offered, grade levels, and student populations in

Elementary schools, curriculum gaps are unavoidable, especially when it comes to lesson

preparation. Students are not learning as much as they might be. Even though professional

development training is a great way to tackle this problem, many teachers disregard them after

the first week. The benefits of implementing new strategies in the classroom are not always

sustainable, and even when they are, they are seldom permanent.

Instructional Resources

Every class has its own unique curriculum map, and instructors often go beyond

textbooks to supplement their lessons. In their view, technology and formative assessments are

two of the most important resources for educators. This makes the teacher's job easier and

guarantees that students submit their work on time. Our curriculum now is standard-based. With

the limited number of textbooks available for students, there is a great need for additional

laptops, tablets/ipads, computers and projectors to enhance the implementation of lessons.

Mission and Vision

Curriculum Action Plan 5

Our school's Mission and Vision is to create a nurturing setting where every kid may

thrive academically. It is clear in every classroom. To make sure that everyone in the class is

safe, the instructors have regulations. Zero tolerance for problems like physical punishment is

only one example of how the ASDOE Student Policy Handbook prioritizes safety.

Weekly school-wide clean-ups are scheduled on the final Friday of each month to keep our

campus neat and tidy. Additionally, our school is lucky to have a landscaping business that has

been hired to enhance the site. If a tsunami, earthquake, fire, or ammonia leak were to occur at

our school, we have preparations in place to evacuate the building. These evacuation

preparations are tested and refined via quarterly exercises.

Refinement

Maps of the Curriculum and Efficient Instruction

• The content delivery and lack of preparation are both noticed.

• Effective teaching requires timely preparation.

• In order to effectively communicate material, educators must learn from one another.

Learn new things and put them to use with the aid of a mentor or participate in a professional

development seminar.

Curriculum maps, according to my observation, fail to adequately design and present

information, two factors that are essential for good instruction. Teachers who put in the effort to

plan and execute well, in their view, will have greater success. They imply that instructors may

enhance their methods by participating in professional development training or by mentoring

other educators.
