The project manager made the right decision on telling the applicant to request for a higher salary above

his bidding since it was a specialized job and demands a higher wage for his time and hard work. The
project manager is much appreciated for his awareness of applicants living wage meeting his economical
needs and sufficiently allow the worker to enjoy a normal standard of living. No one wants to feel taken
advantage and a lesson learned for the applicant not to lower his standard too much because it
considered bias on his part.

The client was taken advantage by the project manager personally and ethically. He disobey the 4
ethical principles of organization. First principle is ‘Honesty and Integrity’. It was very unfair for the client
to misinform about the recruitment and negotiation of the project manager specially the 30% additional
wage for the applicant that is below his budget. Second principle he disobey is ‘Fairness of commercial
practices’. Although the project manager’s act is not a crime, if it will be done frequently probably it will
lead to much worst case such as stealing, corruption and bribery inside the company. Third, is
‘Professional behaviour’. The project managers act is very unprofessional because of not telling the
negotiations happened. He invest in having a long term relationship with his client and he should value
it. He was trusted and paid to keep on top his expectations and meet all his commitment including
finding for a right candidate on a hiring job. Last ethical principle is, ‘Professional skills and added value’.
The skills and knowledge of one’s employee is very essential. It is companies asset and therefore, should
be very keen to look and train for them.

It would be better if the manager proposed for salary figure to refrain from discrepancy and ethical
disobedience. The manager is liable for anything happen since he was trusted to find the best candidate
that can fulfil the job well done. Since the job is risky and a specialized one, the project manager could
look for a competent applicant with a previous experience not a new applicant who don’t even know
the basic salary. If only the project manager talks with the client with their expectations, there will never
be a problem.

If I were in his position, I will talk first with my client about his hiring expectations. Being ethically right
will not only save me from bothering conscience but also saves our company in the long run. A principle
and views starts on oneself and I won’t sacrifice those to take advantage other people and lose my job
permanently.
