Beard
● Use the white yarn.

1 Make a base for the beard.

● Work in back-and-forth rows, in BLO
Make a chain of 13 loops.

8) dec, 2 sc, dec, 1 ch (4 sc).
9) dec*2 (2 sc).

2 Cut the yarn strands for the beard.

In order for the beard to look like a real one, attach a lot of yarn pieces, 14-15 cm long
(about 6''), to it.
You can make such identical yarn strands quickly using a fitting cardboard piece. Wrap
your yarn around it and cut the strands at one of the sides.

3 Attach the yarn strands to the base of the beard.

In the photos below the red yarn is used for clarity.

Fold 2 yarn strands in half and pull them through a front loop of stitch using your crochet
hook (photo # 1, 2), then thread the strands tips through the resulting loop (photo # 3)
and tighten them (photo # 4).

First attach the strands to the base chain (at the top), then in the front loops of the 2nd,
4th, 6th, 8th rows, and also in the loops of the 9th row.
It turns out six rows.
In the photo: the red arrows show the rows for attaching yarn strands.

Leave a space for the nose in the middle of the 1st row. Attach the yarn strands in the
first 3 stitches, skip 6 stitches for the nose, then attach the yarn in the remaining 3 sts.
Photo: the finished 1st row of the beard.

In the rest rows, the strands are attached in each stitch of the rows.

4 Trim the beard.

Braids (2 pcs)

You need 24 yarn strands, 50 cm long, for each braid. Fold them in half, divide into 3
parts (16 strands each) and braid them. The braids are weaved free, when starting, and
more tightly at the end. The braids are sewn to the top of the head, so try on them as
you braid to determine the needed length. Tie a red strand or ribbon around the tip of
the braid, shorten the strands if necessary.

Assembling

1 Decorate the caps and the dress of the gnome-girl.

You can decorate the caps with bright buttons, beads, snowflakes or any other cute
pieces. I used embroidery.

2 Sew the beard.

Sew the beard to the 11th round of the head/body. In the next photo the sewing line is
marked in red.

3 Sew the nose.

Sew the gnome-boy's nose over the beard. In this case, one half of the nose is sewn
directly to the head, and the other half through the beard to the head. Before finishing
the seam, add the filler into the nose.

The nose of the gnome-girl is attached to the 10-14 rounds.

4 Sew the eyes.

Sew the eyes (beads) above the nose, very close each other.

5 Sew the hands.

Sew the hands to the 12th round at the sides.

6 Sew the braids of the gnome-girl.

The braids are sewn to the top of the head, the inner side of the braid are also sewn to
the 12th round (see the red arrow in the photo below).

7 Sew the caps.

To be able to turn up the cap edge and see the gnome's amused glance, do not sew the
cap above the eyes. For the gnome-boy, the seam reaches the edges of the beard, for
the gnome-girl, the middle of the braids.
In the photo: the sewing line is marked in blue.
