1. INTRODUCTION

This addendum shall be read in conjunction with the National Oil Corporation General
Engineering Specification GES V.01 Coded Pressure Vessels (ASME VIII) Rev0, 1999.

It modifies the requirements in the National Oil Corporation General Engineering

Specification for use on VEBA Oil Operations projects.

2. AMENDMENTS

The NOC Specification GES V.01 shall be modified as detailed below. The following
paragraph numbers in Bold are NOC Specification GES V.01 references.

1.13 Data Sheets

Renumber to ‘1.3 Data Sheets’.

Delete sentence and replace with:

The technical data supplied by the owner for the equipment is given on the Data Sheets.
The Vendor/ Contractor shall complete the Data Sheets with any remaining information.

3.1 Codes and Standards

API – American Petroleum Institute

Delete all reference to API standards 601 and 605

ANSI – American Standards Institute

Amend all references to ANSI standards throughout the document to read: ASME

e.g. ANSI B16.5 shall read ASME B16. 5

ASTM – American Society for Testing Materials

Amend all references to ASTM material standards throughout the document to read: ASME

e.g. ASTM A193 shall read ASME SA193

3.2.2 (f)

Paragraph 3: ‘BS5500’ changed to ‘PD5500’.

Paragraph 4, replace last sentence with:

The stress concentrating effect of the nozzle shall be taken into account at the edge of the
nozzle in accordance with PD 5500 paragraphs G.2.3 for cylindrical shell and G.2.5 for
spherical shells (this is not covered by ASME Code).

3.2.5 Corrosion Allowance (f)

Replace: ‘services’ with ‘surfaces’.

3.2.8 Nozzles, Manhole, Vents and Connections

In first sentence delete: “or API 605,”

Insert additional sentence at the end of section f:

Flanges machined from plate or formed from bar will not be permitted except for internal
non pressure retaining parts.

3.2.8 (g)

Insert additional sentence at the start of section g:

Where vessel wall thickness is 40 mm or over, reinforced or backing pads shall not be
used.

Add new paragraph (t), at the end of section 3.2.8.:

Nozzle neck thickness for process and instrument connections shall be suitable for the
design conditions (including any corrosion allowances) but shall not be less than the
following pipe schedules:

Carbon (C), Carbon-Magnese (C-mn) and Low alloy steel:

4 inch N.B and below Sch. 160
6 inch N.B and over X-Strong

Corrosion resistant alloy:

4 inch N.B and below Sch. 80
