Cambridge Analytica Scandal

Q) In your opinion, how did Cambridge Analytica wrong Facebook users?

Cambridge Analytica wronged Facebook users through deceptive and unauthorized
data collection practices. Using the personality quiz app "thisisyourdigitallife," the
company not only obtained personal information from users who installed the app but
also exploited the access to their friends' profiles. This data was then used to create
intricate psychological profiles, analyzing characteristics and personality traits. The
unauthorized use of this information extended beyond users' consent, leading to
targeted political advertising and the manipulation of voters during crucial political
campaigns.
Q) Who should be held accountable for the breach of Facebook consumer data and
why?
As for accountability for the breach of Facebook consumer data, Cambridge Analytica
bears a significant responsibility. The firm engaged in deceptive practices, violated user
privacy, and exploited the acquired data for political purposes. Regulatory actions, such
as the Federal Trade Commission's record $5 billion fine against Facebook, addressed
the broader issue of data mishandling. However, Cambridge Analytica's role in the
unethical use of user data should be scrutinized, and individuals involved should be
held accountable for their actions, including those responsible for orchestrating and
implementing the unauthorized data collection and exploitation.
