Cocoon Shrug Or Cardigan by Lets All Crochet

Its time to snuggle up with this soft cocoon style shrug/sweater! It is stylish
enough to wear out and cozy enough to wear at home! The textured pattern
looks beautiful! It makes a lovely present. It works up fast and is easy to make
using single crochet, double crochet and front post double crochet. The size
can be easily adjusted and make it in any color of choice!

Material-

Yarn- any yarn of any material is okay. I have used DK light weight yarn.

Amount- 500 g of light weight yarn. If you use another weight you may need
600 g. (I have used a local acrylic-nylon yarn, yardage 275m per 100g, green)

Gauge- NOT IMPORTANT

Pattern by Lets All Crochet

Hook- 5 mm or H size crochet hook

Note- you can use any yarn you want suitable for your hook size just follow the
measurement in inches. Any weight can be used but pattern will become larger
or smaller depending on yarn and hook size.

Notions- tapestry needle, stitch markers, scissors, measuring tape

Abbreviations-

 ch= chain
 st= stitch
 sk= skip stitch
 hk= hook
 rep= repeat
 RS= right side, WS= wrong side
 slst= slip stitch
 sc= single crochet
 dc= double crochet
 ch-1 sp= ch 1 space
 fpdc- front post double crochet
 bpdc- back post double crochet
 dc2tog- double crochet two together/ decrease stitch

Finished measurement of rectangle-

Sizes- S/M (L/XL, 2XL/3XL, 4XL/5XL)

Bust- 38 (43, 48, 53)”

Length- 32 (32, 35, 35)”

Size can be easily altered. The instructions are given for S/M size. Larger sizes
are given in ().

Notes-

1. Chain the width. Repeat rows till you reach length. The cocoon shrug is
worked back and forth in rows in a large rectangle, rectangle is then
folded and the sides are sewed to make sleeves.

Pattern by Lets All Crochet

2. Last we work the edging for the centre and sleeves.
3. Work the mesh stitches loosely as the mesh tends to shrink. You can
step up a hook (5.5 mm) for mesh rows if you want. I have used a 5 mm
hook for entire pattern.
4. Stitch count remains same in all rows = (foundation ch) - 1
5. Ch 2 counts as dc in main pattern. Ch 2 does not count as dc in border.
6. The length may be slightly longer or shorter because of the 2-11 row
repeat. The width is where the sleeves fall on arms, the length is where
we want the shrug to end (below rear).

Special stitches-

Front post double crochet-

For shrug- YO, working in front of previous row, insert hook from front to back
to front around the double crochet post, YO and pull up a long loop, (YO pull
through 2 loops) twice. Sk sc behind the fpdc.

For border- fpdc - YO, working in front of previous row, insert hook from front
to back to front around the double crochet post, YO and pull up a loop, (YO pull
through 2 loops) twice. (do not pull up long loop)

Back post double crochet- YO, working at the back of previous row, insert
hook from back to front to back around the double crochet post, YO and pull
up a loop, (YO pull through 2 loops) twice.

Dc2tog- YO, insert hook in next stitch, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull

and pull through 3 loops.

Pattern A and B

The shrug can be made either with pattern A or B. The mesh repeats are
different in both. Choose either pattern A or B from images below and follow
the same for entire shrug. I have used pattern B in the shrug displayed.
