POLICY ON ADDRESSING STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Policy Title: Inclusion and Accommodation for Students with Special Needs
Rationale Committed to providing equal educational
opportunities for all students, including those with
special needs. To recognize that every student is
unique and has individual learning needs. As such,
we are committed to providing accommodations and
support services that ensure the success of all
students.
Objectives  To create an inclusive and welcoming
environment for students with special needs.
 To provide individualized accommodations
and support services to enable students with
special needs to succeed academically and
socially.
 To promote the independence and self-
advocacy skills of students with special needs.
 To ensure that all students are able to access
and participate in all aspects of school life,
including academic, extracurricular, and social
activities.
 To collaborate with families and outside
agencies to provide a comprehensive support
system for students with special needs.
Scope The scope of these policy is to ensure that students
with special needs have equal access to educational
opportunities and support services in an inclusive and
welcoming school environment. This policy applies
to all students with special needs enrolled in the
school, and covers identification, assessment,
individualized education plans, accommodations and
support services, inclusion, professional development,
communication, and collaboration.

POLICIES
1.Identification and Assessment: The school will provide screening and assessment
procedures to identify students with special needs. These assessments will be conducted by
qualified professionals, such as school psychologists, speech therapists, or special education
teachers.

2.Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Students with special needs will have an IEP that
outlines their individualized accommodations and support services. The IEP will be developed
by a team that includes parents, teachers, and other professionals as appropriate. The IEP will
be reviewed and updated annually.

3.Accommodations and Support Services: The school will provide accommodations and
support services that enable students with special needs to succeed academically and socially.
Accommodations and support services may include, but are not limited to, assistive
technology, classroom modifications, individualized instruction, and specialized
transportation.
4. Inclusion: The school will strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for
students with special needs. All students will be encouraged to participate in academic,
extracurricular, and social activities. The school will provide accommodations and support
services that enable students with special needs to fully participate in these activities.

5. Professional Development: The school will provide ongoing professional development to


teachers and staff on best practices for supporting students with special needs. This may
include training on accommodations, modifications, and effective teaching strategies.

6.Communication: The school will ensure that parents and guardians are informed of their
child's progress and any changes to their IEP. The school will provide regular communication
with parents and guardians, including progress reports and parent-teacher conferences.

Authorities Responsibility
1. Administration/Management The administration/management of the educational
institution is responsible for ensuring that the policy
is implemented in all departments of the institution.
They must also allocate necessary resources and
budget for the successful implementation of the
policy.
2. Special Education The Special Education Coordinator/Department is
Coordinator/Department responsible for identifying students with special
needs and ensuring that they receive the necessary
support and accommodations to help them succeed
academically. They are also responsible for
coordinating with teachers and other staff members to
ensure that they are aware of the accommodations
required for the students.
3. Teachers/Instructors Teachers/Instructors are responsible for implementing
the accommodations recommended by the Special
Education Coordinator/Department for students with
special needs. They must also ensure that the students
receive the necessary attention and support to help
them understand the curriculum.
4. Support Staff Support staff such as aides, paraprofessionals, and
therapists are responsible for providing additional
assistance to students with special needs as required.
They may also work with teachers and instructors to
implement accommodations in the classroom.
5. Parents/Guardians Parents/Guardians play a vital role in implementing
the policy. They must communicate with the
educational institution to ensure that their child's
needs are being met. They must also provide the
necessary information about their child's condition to
the institution and actively participate in the
development of an individualized education plan
(IEP) for their child.
6. Students Students with special needs are responsible for
advocating for themselves and communicating their
needs to the relevant authorities in the educational
institution. They must also actively participate in the
development of their IEP and work with teachers and
support staff to achieve their academic goals.
