LESSON VOCAL PERFORMANCE (Winter Concert Songs)

Standards 1.1 Sing independently on pitch and in rhythm

o 1.1.1 Sing in tune, rhythmically accurate, with a steady beat,
clear diction and proper posture
1.2 Sing expressively
o 1.2.1 Sing using dynamics, phrasing and tempo appropriate
to the song
1.5 Sing in groups
o 1.5.1 Sing together responding to the conductor/teacher

Learning The students will be able to…

Objectives o Understand the importance of vocal warm-up before
practicing a song
o Sing rhythm and melodic patterns of the song
o Describe, interpret and perform the song with suitable
interpretation
o Sing the varying tempo, style, and dynamics from the
conductor/teacher cues

Merry Christmas

4. Risers

Procedure 1. Vocal Warm-up

o Humming
o Mama made me mash my M&M’s
2. Practice formation up on the riser
3. Review parts of the song
o Carol of the Bells
o It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
4. Sing songs without dynamics
5. Review dynamics of each song
 6. Sing each song with dynamics and expression
7. Sing all the songs with confidence and discipline on the risers
8. Lesson Wrap Up!

Independent Students Engage in Group Practice
