Invitation To Respond

Dear Chirag,

We are writing to advise that it is alleged you have engaged in academic


misconduct, and you now have an opportunity to respond to this allegation within
seven working days1.

We recognise that receiving this letter may come as a shock and be distressing for
you. Support is available and the contact details are provided at the end of this letter
for your reference.

Assessment: Assessment 3 Technology Review

The alleged incident has been identified as relating to:


• Unacknowledged copying
• Falsifying (inventing and/or distorting) data, information, or citations/references in
an assessment task

The details of the alleged incident are:


The Unit coordinator has identified areas in the submission which do not appear to
be your own wording. In addition there are a number of sections missing citations
and other cited work which does not appear to align with the the cited information.
This may also indicate the use of an artificial intelligence writing tool.

Additional documentation relating to this allegation has been emailed with this letter.

What are my next steps?

We encourage you to respond to this allegation. In line with the Student Academic
Integrity Policy and Procedure, you have the opportunity to respond to the alleged
breach of academic integrity described in this letter with an explanation, and/or
evidence as detailed below.

Your response, including any supporting evidence, must:


• be lodged within seven working days from the date of this letter (working days
refers to weekdays from Monday to Friday, excluding Australian public holidays)
• directly address the allegations and explain what happened or why you believe you
did not breach academic integrity
• include any evidence you have which shows that the work is your own. The
information you provide as evidence can include (but is not limited to):
▪ draft versions of your assessable work
▪ screenshots of computer logs
▪ scanned copies of any notes.
Only information that is relevant to the matter will be considered when making a
determination on whether academic misconduct has occurred.

If you have circumstances which will prevent you responding to this allegation within
seven working days, you may request an extension of time to submit your response.
An extension request must include details of what is impacting your ability to respond
within seven working days, and any supporting evidence you have must be attached.
Extension requests must be emailed to academicintegrity@cqu.edu.au as soon as
possible and within seven working days from the date of this letter.

How do I respond to the alleged breach?

Further information about responding to an academic misconduct allegation is


available in the Academic Misconduct Fact Sheet emailed with this letter.

When you have consulted any support services you require and gathered your
evidence, please submit your response as follows:

complete the Student Response Form within seven working days from the
date of this letter.

Please be aware that the process of examining and making a decision about the
alleged breach will proceed after seven working days even if you do not submit a
response.

Once all available information relevant to the alleged breach has been considered,
including any response you submit, the Case Decision-maker may decide an outcome
such as:

The case is determined to NOT be academic misconduct, which includes the


following outcomes:
• Potential academic misconduct is not substantiated however a finding of
inappropriate academic conduct has been determined, or
• Potential academic misconduct is not substantiated, and allegations are
dismissed.

The case is determined to be academic misconduct with a level of severity assigned


as follows:
• Minor academic misconduct
• Moderate academic misconduct
• Substantial academic misconduct, or
• Serious academic misconduct.

These outcomes are further explained in the Student Academic Integrity Policy and
Procedure emailed with this letter (also available via the CQUniversity policy
website).

Depending on the circumstances of the alleged breach, notification of the outcome


may take around 25 working days from receiving your response.

In accordance with the Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure, a temporary
sanction may have been placed on your student record pending the final decision and
outcome of the investigation. This sanction may restrict your access to your grade,
transcript, and/or graduation.
