Media art / Course annotation

Media Art is a subject of the art studies which explains forms, content and esthetics of
contemporary new media art.
During the course students study development of new media technologies, main media art
concepts and language of new media art.
Photo, video, computer generated, network, internet, robot, installation and ect. new media
art examples are analyzed,
the most important authors of new media art are introduced.

Study Results

1. Describe the concept of new media art and its development.


2. Describe the phenomenon of representation and media types.
3. To explain the media influence on socio-cultural environment.

5. To explain the evolution of media art forms.
6. Discuss about new media art, transformation and development trends.

Content of the subject

1. Art transitions from the beginning of 19thcentury to the present day. Technological
determinism and their impact on science, art, and social structure.

2. New media. Expression principles of new media.

3. Visual, auditory and verbal representation. Types of media.

4. The transformations of personal, identity, time, in newmedia context.

5. The evolution of media art forms: new media prototypes.

6. The evolution of media art forms: photography.

7. The evolution of media art forms: the cinema.

8. The evolution of media art forms: video art.

9. The evolution of media art forms: computer art. Computer: media engine.

10. Media art: development trends and tendencies.

11. Interdisciplinary of new media arts.

12. The prominent new media artists.

13. The visual and media ecology. Audiovisual inflation.


14. Post-industrial society. New media culture and creative industries.

15. The theoretical discourse of new media criticism. Transhumanism, post humanism, and
technological determinism.

Study hours
Lectures (P) for 30 hours.
Work in groups (group work. The media) 15 hours.
Individual work 50 hours.

A total of 120 hours.

Evaluation of study results


Colloquium - 20% individual task (essay) - 20%, team work - 10%, exam - 50%.
