1. My husband has been cheating on me for over three years now with various women. Is there a way I
can apply VAW in filing a case against him?

• You've suffered psychologically and emotionally as a result of your husband's infidelity. Such behaviors
could give rise to the filing of a psychological violence VAW case.

2. My boyfriend has been hurting me every time we fight and even threatens to kill me. Can I file a case
against him for VAW?

• Indeed. An act of violence against women includes both physical assault against the victim and threats
of physical harm intended to influence the victim's behavior or choices.

3. My ex-husband has stopped giving me and our daughter support since 2009. Can I file a case against
him for VAW?

• Yes, you can sue him for VAW due to his withdrawal of financial support. It is "economic abuse" on his
part to refuse to provide you or your daughter with financial support.

4. I have been in an abusive relationship for quiet some time. Can I file a case against him considering his
abuse was irregular?

• Yes, you are able to file a complaint against him. A woman who engaged in a sexual or dating
relationship with her assailant and with whom the assailant has a common child may file a case towards
the latter for assault by physical force.

5. I am a lesbian and I have been in an abusive relationship with another woman since 2009. Can I file a
case against her, even though she is a woman?

• The victim of violence under VAW may be the spouse of the victim, her husband, her ex-husband, her
live-in partner, her former live-in partner, her boyfriend, her ex-boyfriend, her girlfriend, her former
girlfriend, etc. Therefore, any individual with whom the victim has an intimate relationship may commit
an act of violence.
