History Of The Atkins Diet:
Dr. Robert C Atkins founded
the Atkins diet in the early
1960's. He published his first
book in 1972, called ‘Dr. Atkins'
Diet Revolution’, which
explained the principals of the
diet. The book described the
diet as an eating plan that
consists of low-carbohydrate
intake. The diets main purpose
is to be an alternative method
for weight loss, compared to
the other traditional low-fat
diets.
Foods that are consumed:
Full-Fat Dairy:
Meat:
- Cheese, butter, cream, and full-fat yogurt.
- Beef, pork, lamb, poultry (chicken, turkey), and Nuts and Seeds:
game meats.
- Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, and other low-carb
nuts and seeds.
Fish and Seafood:
- Salmon, tuna, trout, shrimp, and other low-carb fish Healthy Fats:
and shellfish.
- Olive oil, coconut oil, avocados, and other healthy fats.
Eggs:
Berries:
- Eggs provide protein and healthy fats.
- Strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries, and other low
carbohydrates fruits
Low-Carb Vegetables:
Non-Starchy Vegetables:
- Leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, bell
peppers, and other non-starchy vegetables. - Non-starchy vegetables that are lower in carbohydrates
like asparagus and green beans
Foods that are NOT consumed:
- Potato chips, pretzels, and other high-carb snacks are - Bananas, grapes, and other fruits with high sugar
restricted. content are restricted because of high carbohydrate
levels.
High-Carb Dairy Products: - Beans, lentils, and other legumes are restricted due to
their carbohydrate content.
- Sweetened yogurt and milk with higher sugar content are
limited Sugary Foods and Bevraged:
