General Description

Riedel Voltage Stabilizer

Introduction into Technical Data

Riedel voltage stabilizer are used as series connection for power systems with fluctuating volt-
ages. At the output of the voltage stabilizer there is a constant voltage for the consumer which is
then independent of the power system.

Mode of operation
Riedel voltage stabilizer consist of a motor driven variable transformer and a booster transformer
as well as an electronic controler. As soon as the controler records a voltage interference from
the desired value at the output of the stabilizer, the motor of the variable transformer is activated
and the primary winding of the booster-transformer is induced. This causes an addition or sub-
traction of the power voltage by the secondary winding and remains until the output voltage con-
forms to the desired value.
A change in the desired value of the output voltage is possible at the potentiometer P1.
The controler itself includes:
8MHz-Atmel-MC, short circuit resistant high power output stages, configurable current limiter,
TrueRMS-half wave measurement as well as electrical strength up to 5kV. Additionally to the
usual analog control, to which we added an analog feedback signal, the control board can be
contacted through a RS232-interface now. Hereby a bus architecture is implemented which en-
ables to operate about 200 devices at one serial interface. The hereby used protocoll is illus-
trated totally through the gratis available DLL. Therefore, it is possible for you to implement all
the functions of the new control into your applications. Alternatively we can offer you our Fron-
tend VisRAM. The new controler is configurated through a jumper and potentiometer, and con-
trols DC-motors as well as step motors up to a power of 50W. Hereby, the conected motors are
protected through an integrated voltage stabilizer.
The proportional control-amplifier controls the motor of the variable transformer contactless, whe-
reby the manipulating speed depends on the supply voltage, which means high control speed at
high variation and low control speed at low variation. This results in a high control accuracy with-
out control vacillation.
Three-phase voltage stabilizer can be constructed with a combined control for all three phases
as well as with a different control for each phase.

Maintenance:

The maintenance has to be accomplished dependent on the usage in periodic intervals, but at
the latest after 12 months concerning the following:
• Visual inspection of all mechanical and electrical parts
• Dust deposits have to be removed from the winding via brush or compressed air
• Cleaning of the contact lanes through a soft and with spiritus soaked drapery or a polishing
emery cloth. Don't use mechanical abrasives.
• Check roller and bearing for facility and pressure

Attention: The bearing of the roller must not be lubricated.

Especially for the application as installation transformer all the important safety regulations have
to be respected (VDE, EN, IEC, equipment safety laws etc.). This is part of our waranty clause
and has to be shown by the user in case of loss.

Main Application Areas

• Machine control • Telecommunication systems

• EDP-Systems • Process control
• Testing bays and laboratories • Remote control
• Medical electronic • Air-traffic control
• Surveillance systems • Stove heating

Electronic - Board MPRP2005:

With the MPRP2005 control unit, motoric variable transformers can be adjusted fast and presize in the target-
performance value comparison. The unit then operates as closed control cycle.
