Practice Tips
Here are the 7 things you should do to make the fastest progress every
time you pick up your guitar - with any course.
The lessons are laid out in a specific order for a reason. And you will make
the fastest progress by following all lessons in the order they are laid out,
because each lesson builds on the previous lesson.
If you skip steps, or don’t complete all of the lessons in order, then you will
have holes or gaps in your knowledge that will severely limit your
understanding, ability, and enjoyment.
Or even worse, if you judge the content of the course by some of the steps
alone - and you don’t follow where it leads, then you will miss out on the
insights you’re really looking for when they’re right under your nose.
So keep your head down and follow the path, and you’ll surprise yourself
by how much progress you make.
BREAKTHROUGH GUITAR
As I mentioned before, the lessons are laid out in a specific order for a
reason. And I promise, when you simply trust the process, do the action
steps, and follow the lessons in order, then your questions will be answered
along the way.
This is by design. Because asking the “wrong” questions, or even the “right”
questions at the wrong time, it will take you down a path that leads to
confusion and wasted time.
And I’d imagine you don’t want to get confused or waste your time, right?
Trust the process, do the action steps, and it will all come together for you
much, much faster.
So who’s right?
That’s the wrong question. It’s not about “right or wrong.” It’s about gaining
an understanding of ONE complete system.
That’s why, when you’re going through the course, have a “beginner’s
mind.”
Temporarily forget everything else you know outside of what the course
requires. And simply follow what the course is asking you to do.
Time and time again, I see so many guitar players sabotage their own
success because they let their thinking get in the way. They think “oh I’ve
seen this before” or “I already know that” or “that’s not what so and so
said”...
And as a result, they cut off any chances of getting better in the moment…
When the information they’ve been searching for is right under their nose!
Unless you want to be frustrated with your guitar playing, don’t be one of
those people.
Put your blinders on, and simply DO what you’re being asked to do.
Because when you tune your guitar (with a tuner) before you play…
You can make sure your ear is “memorizing” the same pitches each time it
hears them. Lessons will take less time to master because they will “match”
with play-along tracks from the beginning. And it just plain sounds better!
When you don’t feel like tuning your guitar, tune it anyway.
5. Persist
When you try to do anything new, you’re going to go outside of your
comfort zone. And by definition, it will feel uncomfortable at times.
That’s a GOOD thing. That’s not a time to give up. Or complain. Or quit.
When you’re trying to learn something new, and you’re just not getting it,
put your guitar down and take a break.
Then come back a few minutes, or hours, or even days later and try again.
You’ll NEVER get it - or get anything for that matter - if you quit.
So make up your mind right now to be a winner. And that you will never
give up. Never!
That might sound ridiculous at first, but it won’t when you hear what I have
to say.
In fact, I’d argue that if you can tie your shoe, you can play anything you
want on guitar.
Because ANYTHING you can play or learn on guitar can be broken down
into brain-dead-simple steps that anyone can do. Period.
In the past, if you’ve ever felt like you didn’t understand something, or you
weren’t able to physically play something…
Then you were trying to learn or do too much. It’s that simple.
Guitar can ALWAYS be broken down into simple enough steps that anyone
can perform.
And it never has to get any harder unless you make it hard.
Do less. And you’ll end up learning more, and progressing far more quickly.
And no guitar player has ever gotten great by failing to complete lessons or
exercises, failing to complete songs or solos on stage, or failing to keep
trying to get better and better.
In fact, if you DON’T complete whatever you’re working on, then you will
never cross the finish line…
For every lesson and exercise you encounter, make up your mind to
COMPLETE the lesson or exercise before moving on.
Then make up your mind to COMPLETE all the lessons in the course.
That’s a surefire way for your guitar skills to grow as quickly and completely
as they can.
If you simply “skim” over a few lessons (as mediocre guitar players do),
doing a little bit of the exercises here and there…
You will create huge holes and gaps in your knowledge and abilities…
You will always feel limited, you’ll never find those key pieces of information
you’re missing…
Now, I’m pretty sure you want to be HAPPY with your guitar playing, right?
I’ve already planned the work for you by laying out the lesson and action
steps for you to do.
Follow these 7 tips, and you WILL make faster, and consistent progress
every time you pick up your guitar.
