Objectives:
To enhance the language skills of the students and develop critical thinking skills
in them.

Basics of Grammar
Parts of speech and use of articles
Sentence structure, active and passive voices
Practice in unified sentence
Analysis of phrase, clause and sentence structure
Transitive and intransitive verbs
Punctuation and spelling
Comprehension
Answers to questions on a given text
Discussion
General topics and everyday conversation (topics for discussion to be at the
discretion of the teacher keeping in view the level of students)
Listening
To be improved by showing documentaries/films carefully selected by subject
teachers

EXAM FORMAT:

Exams are similar to quizzes but contain different questions. Students are allowed
to make only one attempt on each exam.

The Final Examination must be completed by indicated date and time. Only
one attempt will be allowed to answer the questions in the final.

ATTENDANCE:

Attendance at scheduled teaching activities is governed by the University’s


requirement that students attend at least 75% of all classes.

Attendance at practical classes is compulsory, and must be recorded in the


class roll at the start of each class. Arrival more than 15 minutes after the
start of the class will be recorded as non-attendance.

Satisfactory completion of the work set for each class is essential. It should be
noted that non-attendance for other than documented medical or other serious
reasons, or unsatisfactory performance, for more than 1 practical class during the
session may result in an additional practical assessment exam or ineligibility to
pass the course.

GRADES:

The grade will be based on the following cumulative scores:

85-100% A

80 - 84% A-

75 -79 % B+

70- 74% B

69 - 70% B-

65 - 66% C+
