DENR is the department where MGB belongs

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) is responsible

for the administration and disposition of mineral lands and
mineral resources and the conduct of geological, mining,
metallurgical, chemical and other researches, as well as
geological and mineral exploration surveys.
Sinkhole- a depression in the ground; it is caused by the dissolution process in
sandstones of carbonate rocks that causes erosion of soil beneath the ground.

Sandstone dissolution is a common water–rock reaction that occurs in the Earth's crust and affects
important physiochemical reactions such as porosity, permeability, buffering, and absorption (Davis et
al., 2011)
Types of Sinkholes

1.Dissolution or solution sinkhole-Solution sinkholes

are formed by local chemical weathering of the rock,
where water accumulates around a fissure or joint in
the rock. This may be underneath the soil or on the
ground surface.

2. Cover collapse sinkhole- may develop abruptly (over

a period of hours) and cause catastrophic damages.
They occur where the covering sediments contain a
significant amount of clay. Over time, surface drainage,
erosion, and deposition of sinkhole into a shallower
bowl-shaped depression.

3. Cover subsidence sinkhole- tend to develop

gradually where the covering sediments are permeable
and contain sand.
