FOCUS
Definition:
FOCUS - Dictionary definition - The ability to pay particular attention to something
My definition - Focus is a tradeoff of many other things for one thing over a period of time.
Proverbs 4:25 ESV. Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.
Look at the picture and guess who won. ..ok, the lion couldn’t do anything to him because the
lion was perplexed with focus at that point.
The lion was trying to focus on all the 4 legs of the chair instead of dragging the chair out of the
way by holding unto one leg. We know how the ants act, they will focus on one thing until they
take it out of the way. Snakes and eagles are also that focused. They will take out anything by
holding unto just one part of that thing.
How many times have you been in the same situation as the lion?
How frequently do you have a goal in mind (for example, to lose weight, increase your account
digits, start a business, or travel more)... only to become befuddled by all the choices before you
and never make any progress?
As a result, we feel unable to focus or that we are focusing on the wrong things, and as a result,
we take fewer actions, make less progress, and remain unchanged when we could be
developing.
I believe it is past-time for us to make a difference. Here's how to do it:
Epitome of Focus:
Jesus is our biggest model of focus. All he was focusing on was to go about his heavenly
father's business.
John 6:15
Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again
to a mountain by himself.
The people saw all his mighty works. I mean, which country wouldn't want to give a man that
can turn water to wine, their social and economic affairs to handle. A man that multiplies food
even when they don't go to work. A man that heals the sick, at least to enable them not to be
subjected to lockdown or the vaccine mandate. So I understand why they will want to crown him
president already, but Jesus knew he was supposed to set up a kingdom for his
father and not to reign in an already corrupt kingdom. So he stayed glued to his idea and ran
away. Don't forget all the temptations the devil brought to him at the mountain too, but he still
stayed glued to his idea. Some people will say, "no, lose guard." My people, please don't
lose focus.
1. Mentality
Philippians 2:5 KJV, 5. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.
Proverbs 23:7KJV, for as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.
If you think you are not blessed, your mind will be programmed that way and your body will try
to manifest it. If you think you are a loser, your mind will keep programming it until it becomes
your reality. Bless your mind with the word of God, read books, learn new skills and stay
positive. Meditate on things above only.
A friend of mine was complaining about pharmacology last semester. She said she feels so
stupid because she seemed not to remember anything after studying, and I asked her. Did
Jesus reveal to you anywhere, even in a dream, that you were stupid, and she said no. Then I
told her every morning she should ask for mercy and God's help with pharmacology. After that
semester, she bagged a C, but was 2 points short of getting a B because she was half into the
semester before she started praying about it. She was extremely happy for what God did for
her, and the rest is history now.
2. Territories
1 Corinthians 15:33, do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” If you want to
grow spiritually, avoid clubhouses. You want to be someone valuable in life, you have to go to
school. You want to go to understand a lecture in class, avoid the back seats. Etc
What ever you don’t want, avoid territories that encourage that because territories are very
influential towards our growth and development. Remember that when God wants to change
someone's level, he changes their environment. Genesis 12:1
Abraham had to leave his father terah, Joseph had to go to the strongest country in the world as
at then (Egypt), Jesus took the Blind Man of Bethsaida out of the town. Etc…
3. Procrastination
Proverbs 18:9, the Bible says, "He also who is slack in his work Is brother to him who destroys
Procrastination is a destroyer of blessings. It can rob you of self-confidence, self-control,
reliability, and personal peace. It makes you do stupid things because when life is testing you,
you would want to catch up with time and achievements, but sometimes we just can't get
shortcuts. For example, someone that was considering going to a law school. You know it's 5
years and due to procrastination, you keep pushing it and pushing it until 4 years past already,
by the time you are ready to go, you will still have to spend the 5 years to be a lawyer. You can't
cheat life on that, and at some point the person may lose self-confidence and personal peace.
4. Disobedience
1 Samuel 15:22 - And Samuel said, “Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and
sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to
hearken than the fat of rams.
Obeying the Covid-19 protocol, for instance, will save us from the disaster of staying in the
hospital for days.
The time and energy it takes to finding solutions to a problem that could be avoided in the first
place, It's still a waste of life.
People lose out on great jobs and relationships just because the people they dealt with were not
ready to give a second chance. Not everyone gets a second chance, so that's why you should
understand the policies or rules of someone or an organization to fit in properly without losing
out on it.
5. Hastiness
Proverbs 21:5 - The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.
If you want to take a good picture, you will have to wait until the camera is in focus before you
take a picture because if you are not willing to wait for that focus to be complete, you will take
blurry pictures. This applies to everything in life. Wait and grow patiently to get the best of
whatever you are waiting on.
Be patient before you give birth to Ishmael that will eventually fight the long awaited Isaac.

Spiritual Growth
The way in our physical life we need air, food, rest, and exercise in order to develop
our capacities, grow, and maintain a healthy life, that's the same way our spiritual life
needs nurturing. These are a few steps we can take to improve our spiritual life.
1. Reading the Bible: We need to cultivate a personal bible reading plan to enable us
to grow in the word of God. A day shouldn’t pass without reading a bible verse at
least.
Matthew 4:4
New International Version
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that
comes from the mouth of God.
Growing in God's word will be fundamental in maintaining purity and many other benefits.
2. Prayer: Praying is a dialogue with our loving heavenly Father. Oftentimes, weakness of
character can be attributed to a lack of prayer. The greatest form of humility is prayers
- AJS
When it feels most difficult to pray, we should pray most. Therefore, we daily
approach God in prayer. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all
circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians
5:16-18
Psalm 50:15 NIV. Call on me on the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.
4. Bearing Witness: A witness is a person who testifies what he or she has seen and
heard. A witness shares his or her own personal experience. Mark 16:15, He said
to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
Whoever has a living and personal relationship with Christ can be a witness and win
souls for him. A genuine Christian life is contagious. Therefore, we cannot abstain from
talking about Jesus.
It is a privilege and the responsibility of each Christian to reach their neighbors and all
humanity with Christ's wonderful message.
Soul Winning as a group won’t only cause God to bless us collectively, but also on an
individual basis.
5. Obedience: John 14:21, Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves
me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself
to them.” NIV.
The key to a sustainable and ever-increasing spiritual growth is obedience. As soon as
we recognize what God’s will is, it would be unwise to disobey him because we know he
wants the best for us.
Academic Improvement
I will use this opportunity to explain this scripture.
John 14:26
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you
all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Our father will send us the Holy Spirit that will teach us, note the word teach us. So he
could be teaching us something, yet we are not learning that thing due to our
negligence.
Teaching is giving lessons about a particular subject to a group of learners. While
learning is gaining knowledge by studying, being taught, and experiencing.
Now, the next word we should note is, “and will remind you of everything I have said to
you”. So the work of the Holy Spirit is to teach us and remind us what was taught, but
one thing is left in the Knowledge acquisition process, and that's our willingness to
learn. I hope we are ready to learn by paying attention and practicing everything we
learned.
A little twist now, so a Christian brother that has exam the following day could be
praying for the Holy Spirit should help him in the exam without reading and then finishes
the exam disappointed. Knowing fully well that he will probably fail the exam. The
reason for this was because he skipped a fundamental step in the knowledge
acquisition phase and that is on his own part which is learning. He never gave himself
to learning, so the Holy Spirit can’t bring to his remembrance anything at all. He made
the spirit helpless because he skipped a step. I know he can pray for favor and God will
touch the heart of his lecturers to just pass him, but if he doesn't pray for this part or
prayed with little faith, that means he is going to fail the course for lack of diligence.
Meditation:
Psalm 49:3 3 My mouth will speak words of wisdom; the meditation of my heart will give
you understanding.
Meditation is to stay until you see. The benefit of meditation is to bring you understanding.
Pondering on what you have read until understanding or comprehension of that concept
is established is simply meditation.
Joshua 1:8.
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may
be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Spaced repetition
Definition;
Spaced repetition, also known as distributed practice, is an extremely effective learning
approach where lessons are retaken at increasing intervals until knowledge is fully embedded
in long-term memory.
You can say, it is a study practice where, when you study something today, you review tomorrow
and next until that information is well encoded, and you could retrieve and explain it easily.
Spaced repetition is a way to create long term memory, or we can say, it's a way to create
strong and well-connected neurons.
How to effectively practice Spaced Repetition;
1. Keywords = Break up a concept into keywords so that your brain will see it as easy and
will absorb it faster.
2. Sentence Relevancy = Think about important sentences alone, eradicate the junk
information. You will know which are junk information, when you do practice questions.
I encourage us all to do lots of quizzes on the course, so that we can tell what the most
significant information is.
3. Make it click = try to connect the dots on your own by practicing your spaced
repetition on a concept until it gets very easy.
Mind Mapping:
So one way to focus and annex the power of our mind is MIND MAPPING
Mind mapping works best when you build on or actively try to attach new information to another
information already in your long term memory.
It is attaching a newly formed neuron to a well-connected neuron in your brain.
Another perspective I found useful;
Mind mapping is an effective means to take notes and brainstorm essay topics. A mind map
involves writing down a central theme and thinking of new and related ideas which radiate out
from the center.
Sleep:
Sleeping well is underrated in this our hyper busy generation.
Lack of sleep impairs reasoning, problem-solving, and attention to detail, among other effects.
Sleep helps restore the brain by flushing out toxins that build up during waking hours. This toxin
is called beta amyloid peptides. Evidence support that β-amyloid (Aβ) peptides play an
important role in Alzheimer's disease (AD) after many years of accumulation. AD is the most
common cause of dementia. Dementia is a term used to describe a group of symptoms affecting
memory, thinking and social abilities severely enough to interfere with your daily life.
If you start adding choline to your diet, and you’re still experiencing symptoms, it may be
an issue with your overall diet. Your entire diet has to improve to experience the full
benefits of choline.
Good Health
Our bodies have to be healthy for us to be able to function effectively in any area of life. Our
health is very important, and we have to take care of it.
Things to do to sustain good heath:
1. Add fruits and Vegetables to your meal:
They actually contain all classes of
food.
Genesis 1:29 KJV, 29. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed,
which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree
yielding seed; to you, it shall be for meat.
2. Exercise to make your body more sensitive to insulin to avoid brain fog
3. Cultivate the habit of thanksgiving:
Proverbs 17:22 “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the
bones.” King James Version (KJV)
4. Fasting:
Although fasting can be challenging and sometimes uncomfortable, the mental and physical
benefits can:
5. Boost cognitive performance
6. Protect from obesity and associated chronic diseases
7. Reduce inflammation
8. Improve overall fitness
9. Support weight loss
10. Decrease the risk of metabolic diseases
11. Benefit cancer patients — A recent study with mice and cancer showed that fasting
during chemotherapy jump-starts the immune system and exposes the cancer cells.
Ridding the body of old, toxic cells and replacing with new, healthy ones may be just the
answer. Traditionally, cancer patients have been told to increase nutrients and caloric
intake while undergoing chemotherapy treatments, but this approach might now be
under review
12. Adhere to rules and health guidelines:
Following the traffic rules when driving our tricycles, bicycles, walking or even driving will
save us from accidents.
Using mosquito nets will prevent malaria.
Washing your hands regularly will reduce and prevent the spread of infectious illnesses.
Regular health check-ups can help find health issues before they start. Go to your nearest
health facility to check out the health services, screenings and treatment that are accessible to
you.
Not every sickness needs antibiotics, reduce the antibiotic resistance by taking them when
necessary.
Try to cook your foods properly before eating them.
Drink clean water, don't smoke and drink alcohol.
Check your BMI and other important labs once in a while
Good Relationships
To keep good relationships, you have to understand yourself first. Build character first because
we attract who we are.
Proverbs 27:17 NLT. As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.
Proverbs 18:24 NKJV. A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who
sticks closer than a brother.
To have a friend, be a friend.
Friendship is one soul in two or more bodies
1. Trust: Smile more. Remember People's names and the tiny details they tell you.
2. Love language:
Words of affirmation, quality time, physical touch, acts of service, receiving gifts.
If you don't know the love language of someone, try to practice all of them to know the
ones that make the person most happy.
3. Respect: Respect means that each person values who the other is and understands the
other person’s boundaries.
Be punctual and present to every meeting you have with people. It communicates a
feeling of respect and will make them trust you more.
4. Forbearance: No one is perfect, therefore create a room in your heart to forgive
someone because they will eventually annoy you. Forbearance is patient self-control;
restraint and tolerance for people. This is a good character and, if cultured, will be
helpful towards keeping great people around you. If you notice, the most annoying set of
people are the people that need love the most.
5. Honesty. Honesty builds trust and strengthens the relationship.
6. Compromise. In any relationship at all, each partner does not always get his or her way.
Each should acknowledge different points of view and be willing to give and take. If you
are not getting this in a relationship, please question it and if no change was noticed,
you better leave it.
7. Good communication: People should speak honestly and openly to avoid
miscommunication. If one person needs to sort out his or her feelings first, the other
partner should respect those wishes and wait until he or she is ready to talk.
8. Anger control: We all get angry, but how we express it can affect our relationships with
others. Anger can be handled in healthy ways such as taking a deep breath, counting
to ten, or talking it out.
9. Understanding: Each friend should take time to understand what the other
person's goals and visions are. They need to first understand themselves and then
try to understand what makes your friend tick
10. Self-confidence: When people have confidence in themselves, it can help their
relationships with others. It shows that they are calm and comfortable enough to
allow others to express their opinions without forcing their own opinions on them.
Financial Growth
Money is energy converted to materials for supply, so go give out quality energy for quality
money - Quality energy (love, excellence, power, talks or sounds and actions)
Money belongs to God. Heaven and earth are his own, so we are just caretakers. Even after
honoring the owner of the money with 10% of your tithe, he will still demand that you should be
productive with the remaining 90% before he can take you to a higher level of income/riches.
Money is a gift, it demands for your creativity to work for you and the ultimate destiny for it is to
be multiplied in your hands, or it will leave you. Remember the Parable of the Talents.
Money Rules:
1. Save and invest:
ASV Proverbs 13:11
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished;
But he that gathered by labor shall have increase.
But he who gathers by labor will increase.
Ncv
Money that comes easily disappears quickly,
2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou know est not what evil shall be upon the
earth.
The bible encourages us to have multiple streams of income. Multiple investments and sources
of income so that when one area is not producing maximally, you can still profit from other
areas. Example, you are a student and get money from home, yet you are also into affiliate
marketing, you run academic tutorials in school, and you also have a baking business in school.
That's 4 sources of income right there. Then you even go further to buying shares of 3
companies. My dear, this student won't beg for food. If the baking business gets slow, the
tutorial business will produce or even the affiliate will pay. Last, last, daddy will still send money.
2. Dream: If you don't have a dream, how will you have a dream come through. Ask
financially successful people out there if they knew they would be successful, and most
of them would say yes. The reason they said yes was because they have programmed
it in their mind long before they started manifesting it.
‘I stood up after I found it, and I spinned and screamed’ ‘Yeehhh! I can never be
poor!’ - Bishop Oyedepo.
Note: Not all grounds are fertile. A ground could be a person or an institution, and what
determines the fertility of a ground is the giving capacity of that ground. If you give to a
non giver, it's like you're sowing on a rock, it's not wasted because the word of God will
not return to him void, so your returns will be exactly what you sowed but if you sowed in
a fertile ground (a giving ground), your return will be more than you ever sowed
depending on how fertile that ground is. Please examine the ground that you are
sowing in properly before you sow. If you sow to a giving office cleaner, it will be more
profitable for you than sowing to a stingy manager.
Forgiving is a form of giving and when you forgive someone else, you will be
mentally free to think about new business ideas. You can even earn more money
because you can freely go to this person for a link to a business.
Giving money to those that need it will open doors for people. Everyone carries an
anointing and giving to someone that needs the money will cause the person to wish you
well or even pray for you, and trust me, God will answer that prayer. Truly, givers never
lack.
Anything you don’t have is anything you don’t give. So if you want money, give money.
Be calculative, to give a portion of your wealth to people. Don’t just give everything you
have because what will you now have left to obey the rule of investing/saving. Be
organized and calculative with how you use your money and how you give.
6. Relationships: AJS said, and I quote, 'you can add maintaining relationships as a
source of income'. As we know, the popular saying goes like this. Your network
determines your net worth. With those two quotes, we can see how beneficial it can be
keeping quality friends around you. Like minds and even greater minds than you
because we can also rise by sitting on the shoulder of giants. If you are the smartest in
your circle, don't be comfortable. Try to make new friends, but don't neglect the old ones
if you are certain they are at least not taking you backward.
Let me ask you guys.
When a president wins an election, who are the first people that crosses his mind to make his
cabinet members?
On the other side of the pendulum, please avoid friends that trigger you to spend more
than necessary.
Avoid riotous and lustful spending because when all is said and done, these friends will
leave you alone. Most times we even try to impress people that will get jealous of us and
cause havoc to our lives. A friend sticks closer than a brother and a friend loves at all
times, so when you find this kind of friend, spend but don't spend riotously. What people
don’t realize is that when you take out 5k from your wallet, 5k is short from what you
have. Be strategic in your spending, giving and always take an inventory of how you use
your money. Just make sure you are not wasting it.
The way drops of water fill a cup, that's the same way leaks empty it.
7. Avoid competitive extravagant lifestyle:
If you can't afford it 3x, then avoid it. If you can’t afford that restaurant 3x, leave the
innocent place alone. If you can't afford that iPhone 3x, leave it for the store or choose a
Cheaper phone. Etc…
Some people will host a party with a large % of their entire net worth. Lets day all tunde
has in his account was 500k naira, and he spent 200k on Valentine's Day. He has blown
40% of his net worth away because he was trying to match up with David that has 20
million naira but spent that same 200k on valentine. David spent only 1% of his net worth
on val. So you see, how we draw our accounts down by trying to level up with someone
else.
8. Win more than you lose: If anyone tells you that in your financial freedom journey, that
you won't lose money. That person needs beating. The truth is that you will lose
money.
Setting up a business will incur losses, managing a business will incur losses, but
high-flying businesses and billionaires designed their business to win more money than
they lose. Simple. The expensive lifestyle you see some people display on Instagram is
to catch clients, but some people are on Instagram posting cars and trying to maintain a
lifestyle that their level of growth have not taken them to. I will use examples. Tunde and
David. David is into real estate while tunde is a receptionist for example. Tunde envying
the display of cars, and houses on the gram will make tunde to start borrow posting with
people's stuff not knowing that the more David post, the higher the chances of him
getting clients to trust and buy his apartments know fully well that he is not poor or a
scammer trying to carry their millions away while tunde will keep borrow posing
purposelessly until one day his employer will see his posts as irresponsible and
terminate his job. So win more than you lose. Be wise!!
9. Work:
Proverbs 13:4 – “The soul of the lazy man desires, and has nothing; but the soul
of the diligent shall be made rich.
No, legal work is a dirty job. Go get that job and make money, regardless of what
people may think of you. In the first place did they know the exact day, hour,
minute and second God sent you to come on earth? So do what is right for you.
10. Leverage:
Leverage refers to the use of borrowed funds, labor and products that were initially not
yours but became accessible to you to amplify returns from a project.
Capital leverage - This is a kind of leverage where you can start a business because you
have the funds, it could be that you inherited the funds from your parent, it could be that
you were favored by someone with funds
And the last one is loan. You got a loan from a financial institution.
Labor leverage -
If it takes 2 people with the same working condition to achieve something in 10 years,
don't you think it will take 20 people to achieve that same thing under the same
conditions to get it done in 1 year and even better, 200 people to get it done in 10 days
and 2000 people to get it done in a day. That's the power of harnessing this gift called
man.
Product & Media leverage - Our century gifted us with the internet. A Lot of people are
using the internet to mine money.
Emmanuella and her crew started comedy skits online and now the small girl big God
could afford to buy a house for her parents.
Everything is going digital, well, at least most things are. All you need to do is think of
which business you can do and see how you can connect it with the internet because it
gives you access to a potential client on your friend's snap.
Amazon, Alphabet, Uber etc. are all middleman businesses with astronomical value in
billions.
I like this guy. His name is Khaby Lame. Became famous on TikTok through
demonstration and never said a word till today. How is that even possible, that you can
create a unique idea that sells without saying anything.
Just think. All you need is within you. I see financial wonders emerging from this group
in a few years from now. In less than 15 years, many of us here will be first class
citizens. Not middle class, I mean top people in the society. God bless all of us IJN.
Joshua 1:8
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and
night, that thou may est observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt
make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
In as much as I spoke about 5 key areas of life to give an unwavering focus to, that doesn't
mean you will jump into all of them at once. Make a daily schedule and follow it. That's the
power of focusing on one thing at a time.
Sample Schedule:
Monday
Morning
Wake-up - 4am
Devotions - 4am-5am (Spiritual growth)
Prep for the day & breakfast - 5am–7am
School/Work - 7am–3pm
Exercise - 3pm–4pm (Maintaining beauty - Health)
Business / Skills / Talent Development (tailoring, braiding etc.) - 4pm-5pm (Financial growth)
Friends hangout/ Fellowship - 5pm–7pm (Building good relationships)
Study Time - 7pm–11pm - Academic improvement)
Transportation and other activities in between shouldn't take more than 20 mins from each
section.
Remember, the best time to start a project was yesterday. The next best time is today.
Hebrews 12:11 ESV. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later
it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Life is a battle ring, whether you realize it or not. We're all doing it. We spend the most of
our time sitting quietly, staring at the chair in front of us, silently discussing which leg is the
most essential.
Make a decision if you have somewhere you want to go, something you want to accomplish, or
someone you want to become. If you know where you want to go, the rest of the world will either
assist you or let you be. Both of these are advantageous.
You don't have to complete everything at once, but there is something you must complete right
now.
