 ROLE OF TEACHER EDUCATION IN PROVIDING QUALITY KNOWLEDGE IN
NIGERIA EDUCATION SYSTEM

Abstract

It is obvious that qualified competent and dedicated teachers are the major
instrument for achieving educational goals and national development. The
teacher observed that in spite of the current changes in teacher’s salary
structure. Teacher’s salary are not paid as at when due. They are often
molested and abused by student’s parents and the entire society. Nevertheless
through teacher education, teacher has contributed to national development
like Election and Census. They also participate in creating awareness among
the citizens. Teacher education constitutes the foundation of a country’s
competitive advantage. We Nigerian there is constant emphasis that from a
local, national and global perspective, economic and social development should
be increasingly driven, for the key to Nigeria becoming developed.
Internationally relevant and competitive in the world market. The advocates
teacher education programme providing quality knowledge. The paper
discussed in brief advent of teacher education. it also considered the theoretical
framework of the study it further discussed the role of teacher education
programme in providing quality knowledge. The paper highlighted some
challenges in teacher education programme and suggested ways forward such
challenges. The qualitative method will be used in coursed of data collection.
The conclusion called for more serious on teacher education programme by
government; Recommendations will be provided on how best to improve the
service of the Nigeria education system.
