Page 6FAN SOUND ATTENUATORS (SILENCERS) ‘These units are similar to sections of ducting but with @ special inner lining of perforated sheet. ‘Sandwiched between the lining and the outer skin is an effciont noise absorbing foam. ‘The attenuators are supplied with end rings which are drilled and tapped to exactly correspond to the bolt hole pitching on RDM fan flanges. ‘The Attenuators can be fitted either between the spraybooth and fan (thus reducing workshop noise), or between fan and exhaust duct (thus reducing environmental noise). They can also be fitted to air intake systems. Units are available in two standard length formats, (others available to order). These are:~ 41D = The unit length is aquat to its diameter, or 20 - The unit length is double that of its diameter. A1D silencer will reduce noise by between 8 and 15 dBA. Page 10Environmental Protection Act 1990 Part One IMPORTANT CUSTOMER INFORMATION (1997 Amendment to Document PG6/23/95) ‘There have been regulations in force since 1992 both to regulate and control the emission of solvents into the atmosphere. ‘These Regulations are under constant review and the latest 1997 revision PG6/23/(97) has now been published and is available from H.M.S.0. As previously, these regulations will require the use of high quality filtration and control equipment for Spraybooths, ovens and Degreasers, but with the new regulations, more detailed discharge monitoring and records documentation may be required. ‘The guidance note document PG6/23/(97) is complex and detailed, To assist our clients we have identified ‘sore exerts from the text that we believe are the most relevant to the majority of our clients, RDM recommends that if these requirements appear relevant to your process, you should obtain a copy of the document P@6/29/(27) and carefully study the requirements. RDM willbe pleased to assist and advise you, RDM believe that the most important points are:- (1) The regulations usually ONLY relate to processes using more than 5 Tonnes of solvent, per year. (2) Itis necessary to only uss H. aitless or electrostatic paint spraying equipment. (8) A’New higher limit of 150 mg of solvent per m? of discharge air is now permitted for processes with up to 15 Tonnes annual solvent usage. (4) Operetara will almost certainly have to use ‘Compliant Coatings’ these are paints and coatings with a specific, low solvent to solids ratio as shown in the tables issued in the guidance note, (5) The very tall and often complex ductwork systems previously raquired may not now be required, (6) Solvent and particulate dlscharge level monitoring may be required for processes that are covered by the regulations. Sinoe the requirements for monitoring and documentation are quite complex, a firm ‘of monitoring specialists may need to be engaged.
