ABDUL WALI KHAN UNIVERSITY MARDAN

Introduction

Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) stands at a critical juncture where the need for equitable
education has become paramount. In response to the prevailing challenges, this resolution is proposed
to address the concerns surrounding tuition fee hikes and teacher salaries. By fostering transparency,
collaboration, and fair practices, AWKUM can pave the way for a brighter and more inclusive academic
future.

Background:

In the past five to six days, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan experienced a strike, albeit without
direct involvement from the teaching staff. As of now, the strike has concluded, but the details regarding
the recent discussions between the Voice Chancellor (VC), Dr. Zahoor Ul Haq, and the university
employees remain unclear.

While the strike was ongoing, there was a lack of information about the nature of the discussions or
negotiations between the VC and the employees. However, it is evident that the situation has now been
resolved, bringing an end to the strike.

The recent wave of discontent among the AWKUM community has underscored two central issues - the
escalating burden of tuition fees on students and the stagnation of teacher salaries. Recognizing the
urgency of these matters, this resolution seeks to reconcile the interests of all stakeholders, creating an
environment conducive to learning, growth, and fairness.

Resolution Points:

1. Freeze on Tuition Fee Increases:

Immediate implementation of a freeze on tuition fee hikes to alleviate the financial strain on
students. This measure aims to make higher education at AWKUM more accessible to a diverse
range of students, irrespective of their economic background.
2. Transparent Financial Review
Conduct a comprehensive and transparent review of the university's financial structure. This
entails a meticulous examination of budget allocations, expenses, and revenue streams. The
findings should be made accessible to the AWKUM community, fostering trust and
accountability.
3. Fair Adjustment of Teacher Salaries
Undertake a thorough assessment of teacher salaries, recognizing the vital role educators play in
the academic development of students. Implement fair and justified adjustments to ensure
competitive compensation, reflecting the commitment to the well-being of the academic
faculty.

4. Establishment of A Financial Oversight Committee

Form a Financial Oversight Committee comprising representatives from students, faculty, and
administration. This committee will be entrusted with the task of regularly reviewing financial
matters, ensuring adherence to best practices, and making recommendations for a more
equitable distribution of resources.
5. Enhanced Committee Channels
Strengthen communication channels among the university administration, faculty, and students.
Regular town hall meetings and open forums should be established to facilitate constructive
dialogue, fostering a collaborative environment where concerns can be addressed collectively.
6. Student Financial Aid Programs
Expand existing student financial aid programs and actively promote them. This includes
scholarships, grants, and work-study opportunities aimed at supporting students facing
economic challenges, thereby ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder access to
education.
7. Establishment of a Grievance Redressal Mechanism
Develop a transparent grievance redressal mechanism to address concerns raised by students
and faculty promptly. A well-defined process for issue resolution will ensure that challenges are
met with fairness and efficiency.

Conclusion:

In adopting this resolution, AWKUM charts a course toward a more inclusive, transparent, and
collaborative educational environment. The university community is currently unaware of the specific
details of the agreement or understanding reached between the VC and the employees. It is hoped that
this resolution marks a positive step forward and that both parties can now work collaboratively to
maintain a harmonious and productive environment within the university.

As more information becomes available, the university community anticipates gaining insights into the
recent developments and the ongoing collaboration between the administration, represented by VC Dr.
Zahoor Ul Haq, and the dedicated employees.
