Fictional Characters are those characters in a story or film that are not real. They are
those characters that are products of the writer’s imagination. Despite not being real, these
characters may potentially inspire us in our daily life. They can also give us moral lessons that
can help us to be a better person and might complete our identity as individuals.
From my perspective, the fictional character that I identify the most with is The First
Asian Disney princess: Mulan. This character is from a Chinese film (Mulan), that is made
during Second Sino-Japanese War. The two characters in the story—Mulan and her father—
have a dilemma where someone in the family has to join the army but only men are qualified to
join. Mulan decided to join the army while pretending that she is a man. What I like about her is
that she is not the typical type of princess. She is brave, determined, and compassionate. She
proves that she is not just a woman; she wasn't in any way inferior to men. Through her
character, I learned that women can also be powerful. Women are already strong, it's about
changing the way the world perceives that strength" ( Anderson 2014). This quotation by G.D.
Anderson reminds me of Mulan. He stated that women are naturally strong, we just have to
open our eyes to see the different abilities of women.
Through the help of Mulan, the people can see that women can also do what men can
do.
