Code

Fire-Extinguishing System
Gas 20 The ship may be exempted by the Administration from the requirement of a fixed gas fire-
extinguishing system protecting the cargo hold(s).

Personnel Protection
Protect 30 Two sets of self-contained breathing apparatus with spare air cylinders for at least two refills for
each set shall be available in addition to normal fire-fighter's outfits.

Gas Detectors
Detect 15 A suitable detector for quantitative measurements of phosphine and arsine shall be provided.
Detect 35 A suitable detector for quantitative measurements of hydrogen shall be provided.

Documentation/Documents
Doc 10 The update edition of the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code shall be
available on board.
Doc 10.1 The Medical First Aid Guide for Use in Accidents involving Dangerous Goods (MFAG) shall be
available on board.
Doc 10.2 The approved Trim and Stability Information and the approved Loading Manual, if applicable,
shall be available on board.
Doc 10.3 The Bulk Cargo Booklet including all information according to regulation VI/7.2 of the SOLAS
Convention shall be available on board.

Warning Signs
Warn 10 "NO SMOKING" / "NO NAKED FLAME" signs shall be posted in the vicinity of cargo hold(s) and
in areas adjacent to cargo hold(s).

Ventilation
Vent 10 Mechanical ventilation shall be provided for continuous operation by at least two independent
ventilation fans per cargo hold concerned which together ensure at least six air changes per
hour. Should one fan fail, at least three air changes per hour shall be maintained.

Ventilation – Additional Provisions


Vent-Add 30 Ventilation shall be arranged such that escaping gases do not reach living quarters on or under
deck.
Vent-Add 40 Inlet and outlet openings of cargo hold ventilation shall be arranged at a height meeting the
requirements of regulation 19 (3) of the ICLL for openings without weather tight closures, i.e. at
least 4,50 m above deck in position 1 and at least 2,30 m above deck in position 2.

Sources of Ignition
Ex 10 Electrical equipment provided for the cargo hold(s) shall be of certified safe type or shall be
capable of being isolated from the electrical supply and of being safeguarded against
unintentional reconnection.
Ex 10.1 Cables within the cargo hold(s) shall be protected against damage from impact.
Ex 10.2 Cable penetrations of decks and bulkheads shall be gastight.

Ex-Add 10 The ventilators shall be of non-sparking type.

Bilge Pumping
Bilge 60 The cargo hold bilge line shall be provided with an isolating valve which can be secured in
closed position, e.g. locking device.
Bilge 60.2 Warning signs shall be posted at the isolating valve or control position(s), e.g. "This valve to be
kept secured in closed position during the transport of dangerous goods in cargo hold no(s). ...
and operated with master's permission only."

Other Boundaries
Bound-Add 10 Prior to loading, the bulkheads to engine room should be gastight and should be inspected and
approved by the competent authority.
