Womanist Ethics

In Towne’s, chapter beginning notes on dismantling the cultural production of evil, she

talks about how you understand, and take apart the overlooked ways of how evil is shown in

everyday life. In her writing, she has a large combination of theology, ethics, and social theory.

When reading her article, she wants readers to intently look at the things that are normal and

mundane in life. She says that these moments in life, that seem insignificant could be a part of

larger parts of oppression and injustice. In her writing, she encapsulates this thought by saying,

“Yes, there is something about challenge yoked with hope, when it is grounded in living for

tomorrow as we live for today, that is solid enough to sustain our lives and overcome skepticism

and doubt that the cultural production of evil encourages within us. But it is frightening because

we know that loving and caring for others and ourselves interrupts the mundane and comfortable

in us and calls to us to move beyond ourselves and accept a new agenda for living.” this quote,

talks about overcoming skepticism and doubt. With hope you can stand against the skepticism,

and doubt that is made from evil. Along with norms in society that contribute to harmful

behavior, they often make people doubt the good, but if you face these challenges with Hope

you’ll be able to overcome these negative influences. Overall this quote shows how

acknowledging discomfort and fear can transform our lives.

By reconsidering, what is evil and how it works it makes people think about the minor

actions in society that could cause oppression. With writing like this, you can look at situations
that could be common in areas of inequality and discrimination, which would appear on social

media or in people's daily lives.
