The Defenders of Vraks were, at their core, a professional Planetary Defence Force reinforced by the
Apostate-Cardinal Xaphan’s fanatical supporters, Chaotic allies and ordinary citizens of Vraks and with
their pick of an entire Armoury World’s storehouses. However, while they may have support of other
forces of Chaos, they have not yet fallen so far as to be deliberately courting the attention of Daemons.
They would prove be be a determined foe, taking more than 13 years of siege by the Death Korps of Krieg
to defeat with the assistance of the Dark Angels, Red Scorpions, Exorcists and Grey Knights.
This list is can represent any Planetary Defence Force that, while well-equipped, lacks the overall
organizational and technical competency of the Imperial Guard. It can also represent well-disciplined
Chaos forces such as the Blood Pact or Infardi.
The majority of the renegades supported the cause for different reasons and for every unshakable fanatic,
there was an equally unwilling traitor. The more loyal were given more lethal equipment and important
duties while those seen as potentially untrustworthy were often sent directly to man the defence lines and
watched over by the brutal enforcers of the Apostate-Cardinal’s will.
Core Formations that have lost their appropriate Enforcer unit have -1 to their Initiative Rating.
The arrival of the Alpha Legion and their own allies on Vraks bolstered the Apostate-Cardinal’s strength,
while undermining his authority. The mortal champions of the Gods operated according to their own
agendas and were loathe to take orders from mere humans.
All formations have an Initiative Rating of 2+, with the exception of Allied Formations which have
an Initiative Rating of 1+

Design Rationale: This list is about updating Evil & Chaos’s Vraksian Traitors to better represent a
Planetary Defence Force or second-rate Imperial Guard regiment who has turned renegade. Their
lack of contemporary equipment and operational expertise limit their offensive capabilities, but
some of their more rarely available equipment and allies of Chaos allow them some unexpected
flexibility.
To accomplish this, they have lost the normal commissar rules available to Imperial Guard. Their
equivalents have their hands full keeping the front-line troops holding the line and are only found
in the core infantry formations. They have also been given the ability to buy fortified positions
similarly to the Death Korps of Krieg and Imperial Fists.
As the ability to conduct complicated maneuver warfare is limited, their artillery and armoured
companies have been downgraded to platoons and made Support Formations while the Sentinel
squadron, Armoured Fist platoon and Chimera upgrade for the HQ platoon have been removed
altogether.
The Chaos Space Marine warbands on Vraks, while few in numbers, brought much-needed mobility
on the battlefield and often subsumed the renegades in the sectors they operated. To better
represent the integration between Chaos Marine warbands and the renegades, a Predator
detachment has been added to the Allied Formations list.
It has been noticed that Malcador companies were very good when garrisoned. They have been
reduced to support platoons of 4 and company upgrades of 2 to emphasise their not-quite-
superheavy status and take advantage of the upcoming Legions Imperialis plastic models.
While the defenders of Vraks had no shortage of powerful weaponry, they were unable to have
sufficient numbers of trained personnel to operate much of it. For this reason, Manticores and
Deathstrike Missiles have been removed, and traditional superheavy tanks not reintroduced.
Ogyrn Berserkers, Hounds of Vraks, and Worker/Beastmen/Mutant Rabble were notable parts of
the Imperial Armour Siege of Vraks army lists. They have been been added as their own formations,
both for their proxy potential and to take advantage of Vanguard & Onslaught Miniatures’ available
model ranges.
The Harbinger Bomber & Chaos Warlord Titan, while never canonically part of the Siege of Vraks,
have been kept in to represent better equipped and organised Chaos bands such as the Blood Pact.
Points values have been largely kept the same, except for where equivalent formations exist in
approved lists.
