Topic: Maintaining public libraries is a waste of money since computer technology can
replace their functions. Do you agree or disagree?
ANSWER:
It is inevitable that some hold a belief that maintaining public libraries can waste a great
deal of money as information technology is able to replace their own functions, while
others have a supposition that it is such a wrong concept; by contrast, from my viewpoint,
I oppose this for several reasons.
On the other hand, it also helps dwellers to have a much more positive lifestyle instead of
a negative one. In other words, people who dedicate time to surfing the information on
electronic appliances may suffer from an enormous number of well-being issues, from
short-sighted problems to depression and fatigue. More indispensably, if they give up this
adverse habit, there is almost every likelihood that they will have the capability of
preventing themselves from picking up diseases. Also, the habit of reading is genuinely
beneficial for individuals, particularly students for the reason that it can reduce their
stress as well as pressure.
Although many have an assumption that almost every kind of information is completely
available on the Internet meaning that there may be no point in going to the library, I
would argue that it is merely a popular misconception. It is undeniable that allocating too
much time to concentrate on the mobile phone’s screen might inflict not only mental but
also physical health problems on users, meanwhile citizens who are keen on reading
books usually have better well-being; hence, books are indeed much more useful than e-
books.
To sum up, I firmly have a thought that even though maintaining public libraries may
have some difficulties with money, it still plays a necessary role in almost every
dweller’s life for all of the reasons that have already been listed above.
