Proposal for apprentice

training in
South Africa

Why invest in ITC?
ITC was founded in 2007. We have provided training for
major airlines in Africa such as TAAG Angolan Airlines, LAM,
LAM startech, Zambesi Airlines, Global Aviation and
Aeroservice Togo . We are SACAA, TETA and INAVIC approved.
Our instructors experience is the main reason for our success
and popularity. Combined, we have more than 450 years
aviation experience under the belt. 250 of these years were
spent in training.
The instructors are approved on the following aircrafts:

Airbus A330, 340
Boeing 707, 727, 737, 747, 767, 777
DC9 / MD80
DC3
DC4
And all relevant power plants

This makes us capable in most of the fascists in the Aviation


industry.
Marthinus Potgieter started as a mechanical apprentice
with SAA and qualified as a maintenance engineer in
1980, obtained licenses on B747-200 -300 SP & Combi,
B737-100 -200 Advanced, did travelling technician duties
and completed the Airbus A300 course before being
promoted to a mechanical Aviation instructor in 1987.
Presented all the modules in the basic training school as
well as compiling and presenting courses on the Douglas
DC 3, DC 4, Junkers JU 52, Harvard and Piper Pa28R-200,
holding maintenance release on the JU 52, Harvard and
Piper.
Compiled the maintenance schedule for the Piper PA 28.
Compiled and presented technical courses for the SAA
Cadet Pilot training program. Functioned as the "on the
job" (OJT) Training Instructor for all SAA apprentices in
the workshops and Hangers during their final year of
training with SAA. While with SAA trained apprentices
from Mauritius, Seychelles, Swaziland and Angola.
Completed a certificate in Training with RAU and is an
assessor registered with the TETA. Managed the Basic
training school for the last 2 years before resigning from
SAA to start my own training facility.

The duration of the phase 1 training will be over 12 months,
including 3 weeks holiday during December
Phase 1 will consist of:
Induction - Company rules
Occupational health and safety
Basic first aid
Aviation legislation - regulatory framework, certifying,
AMO’s, Aircraft certification, SACAA regulations

Module 1: Mathematics (Theory)- Here we cover the basic


mathematic day-to-day calculations and mathematics

Module 2: Physics (Theory) - The nature of matter, atoms,


elements, chemical definitions and bonding

Module 3: Electrical fundamentals - Electron theory,


conduction, DC and AC sources, resistors, magnetism,
transformers, generators and motors. The practical training
will be on motors and the available aircraft electrical systems.
Module 4: Electronic fundamentals - semi-conductors, diodes,
transistors, circuit and circuit board and servo mechanisms.
The practical training will be on available aircraft.

Module 5: Digital techniques - Flight instruments, fibre optics,


optical detectors and receivers. The practical training will be
on available aircraft instruments.

Module 6: Material and Hardware (Theory) - Properties of


materials, testing for tensile, compression, hardness and
impact, fatigue, iron production, steel making, heat
treatments, alloy, identification test and corrosion, fasteners,
pipes and unions, springs, bearings, transmit ions, control
cables, electrical cables

Module 7: Safety precautions in the workshop - workshop


practises, tools, engineering drawings, avionic test equipment,
fits and clearances, electrical cables and connectors, riveting,
welding and brazing. The practical training will be engineering
practises(filing) and safety wiring.

Module 8: Weight and balance, aircraft handling and storage,


disassembly inspection repair and assembly techniques,
abnormal events, and maintenance procedures. The practical
training will be on available aircraft.
Module 9: Aerodynamics (Theory) - Physics of the atmosphere,
aerodynamics, theory of flight, flight stability and dynamics.
Practical students will have to build a wind tunnel.

Module 10: Human factors (Theory) - Human performance and


limitations, social psychology, factors affecting performance,
tasks communication, human error and hazards in the work
place.

Module 11: Theory of flight - aerodynamics and structures.


Practical will be using structures tools to manufacture a
postbox/toolbox.
Module 12: Aircraft avionic systems, aircraft instruments and
onboard maintenance systems. The practical training will be
on available aircraft systems and workshop equipment.
Module 13: Aircraft electrical - Electrical systems and lights,
fire protection. The practical training will be on available
aircraft systems and workshop equipment.
Module 14: Aircraft pneumatic, air conditioning and
pressurization systems - We cover the engine pneumatic
systems and the aircraft air conditioning systems. The
practical training will be on available aircraft systems and
workshop equipment.
Module 15: Landing gear - Theoretical part of landing gear,
installation and operation as well as wheels, brakes and anti-
skid systems. The practical training will be on available
aircraft.
Module 16: Flight controls - What makes an airplane fly,
how do we control the airplane and the rigging processes.
The practical training will be rigging of aircraft flight
controls.
Module 17: Fuel systems - Fuel tanks, fuel feed, cross
feed, fuelling and de-fuelling, fuel quantity, fuel jettison,
fuel contamination, fuel tank entry. The practical training
will be on available aircraft.
Module 18: Hydraulic power -theory of operation and
circuits, systems, hydraulic fluids, pumps, auxiliary
pressure generation, system components, indication and
warning and maintenance. The practical training will be on
available aircraft hydraulics systems which includes the
removal and installation of components.
Module 19: Miscellaneous systems (Theory) - ice and rain
(ice formation, detection, anti-icing, de-icing, engine anti-
icing, windshield ice protection, probes and drains eating,
potable water and waste heating system), Oxygen (need
for oxygen, crew oxygen, passenger oxygen, safety and
maintenance) Water and Waste (potable water systems,
waste water systems and toilet systems).

Module 20: Gas turbine engines - Fundamentals,


performance, inlet, compressors, combustion section,
turbine section, bearing and seals, lubrication, lubrication
systems, fuel systems, air systems, starting and ignition
systems, engine indicating, power augmentation systems,
turbo prop systems, turbo shaft, auxiliary power units,
power plant installations, fire protection services, engine
monitoring and engine storage. The practical training will
be on available gas turbines or auxiliary power units
.Module 21: Piston engines - fundamentals, performance,
construction, fuel feed, starting and ignition, induction and
exhaust, supercharge, lubricating and fuels, lubrication
systems, engine indicating, power plant installation, engine
monitoring. The practical training will be on Volkswagen air
cooled engines; stripping, reassembly en measuring of
engines.

Module 22: Propellers - fundamentals, construction, pitch


control, synchronising of propeller Ice protection, storage
and preservation. The practical training will be on available
propellers which includes static balancing of the propellers.
Phase 2:
The students who have successfully completed Phase 1, will
advance to Phase 2 where they will spend approximately 18
months at Aircraft Maintenance Organisations. Here they
will enhance their practical skills and knowledge. ITC will
arrange this practical to be done at Global Aircraft
Maintenance, Springbok Flying Services and Jetworx.

Before entering the practical environment, we will present


and Induction course on the SACAA regulations, as well as
the company’s rules and regulations. They will also undergo
a theoretical general familiarization course on one of the
types of aircraft they will be working on.
During this practical period the student will have to keep a
log book indicating all the tasks that he has successfully
completed. This will also force him to work on all the
systems of the aircraft and ITC will conducting frequent
evaluations on the students.
Phase 3: Final competency test
The students will have to complete a 2 week trade
revision course where all their knowledge will be
enhanced to ensure that they are prepared for the
trade test. The duration of this test is 2 days. If
found to be competent at the end of this test, the
student will qualify as a Aircraft Technician, without
a type rating.

Qualified technician
The student must complete at least 2 years of
experience on a specific type of aircraft and
successfully completed a maintenance course to
apply for a license on that aircraft.
