Dear Applicant

RE: Compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)

CAO is committed to ensure that we are compliant with the relevant data protection laws in our
country as per the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) of 2013.

Therefore, to ensure that we remain compliant, we will only share the details of your application with
you, the applicant and with educational institutions as stated in the Applicant Declaration and
Informed Consent you agreed to when you applied.

The only time your personal information will be given to someone else will be in the following
circumstances. If you are:

 Under 18 years of age when you applied and are still Under 18
Your personal application information will be given to the parent/guardian who signed the CAO
Declaration and Informed Consent Form

 18 years or older and wish for your application information to be made available to a 3rd party
e.g. parent, guardian, teacher etc.
(which includes your personal information as submitted on your application)
You must print and sign a Power of Attorney Form giving the 3rd party permission to request
application information on your behalf.
If you want to give permission to more than one 3rd party, please complete a separate Power of
Attorney Form for each person.

See attached Annexure A ‘Power of Attorney Form’ OR alternatively, log onto our website
www.cao.ac.za and click on the ‘Important Notices and News’ icon.

The Power of Attorney Form must be completed, signed and uploaded onto your CAO application
profile. Go to www.cao.ac.za, click on ‘Upload My Documents’ and select ‘Power of Attorney Form’

Once uploaded this document will be available after one hour to CAO, its administrative departments,
staff or any affiliated persons at the institutions to which you have applied.
