4. Update - Procedure
Note!
Due to safety reasons,
the update of software-
version 5.02 can not be
performed via the
update-dialog (“Options”
pull-down menu /
“Setup”).
CAUTION!
Before using the IOLMaster with software-version 5.02 it is of vital
importance that the interferometer motor has been checked /
adjusted as described under section 5 and that the Keratometer-aid
has been calibrated as described under section 6.

5. Checking and adjusting procedure of the interferometer motor
CAUTION !
The sledge-speed and speed-oscillation are the key-values in
relation to the new ALM-measurement (composite-signal). If one of
both adjustments is out of range it could lead to serious
consequences!
3) Measure the surrounding temperature and determine the corresponding sledge speed
which must be adjusted in section 5 item 4) – see diagram below.
Note!
The interferometer sledge speed is related to the surrounding
temperature!

4) If not already present, change to
„Speed-View“ and adjust first the
determined sledge speed. Adjusting
tolerance is ± 0,2 mm/s.
See Service-Manual for further
information about the sledge speed
adjustment. Ensure that the displayed
speed is reached after 80 ms (first
dotted line – black).
Note!
If the determined sledge speed can’t be reached after 80ms, the present
motor might be hard-steering. In that case the motor must be
exchanged! If the problem still persists, the IOLMaster must be sent for
in-house repair!
Note!
If the motor can not be adjusted so that all peaks lie within the white
zone, the motor must be exchanged! If the problem still persists, the
IOLMaster must be sent for in-house repair!
Version 1.0
Service-Bulletin No. 510 IOLMaster 5 / 10
6) After adjustment of the sledge motor, the measuring range (14 mm – 40 mm) of the
interferometer must be verified. Exit the “Speed-Test” and make measurements in the
ALM mode. Please mark an individual measurement (taken with the current motor speed
adjustment) and move the white spot manually over the end of the red graph using the
right mouse button.
Note!
Do not use the left mouse button, due to the reason that the left button
will automatically determine any peak in the area of positioning the white
spot. In that case you may not be at the end of the measurement range!
The limits of the measurement range are 14,2 mm and 39,7 mm. It is not needed to
widen the range much more than that. In the case of the lower end (14,2 mm) can’t be
reached, you have to adjust the lower light barrier (edge detector) of the interferometer -
you have to move it upwards.
Note!
If the range of 14,2 mm to 39,7 mm can’t be reached even if the light
barrier has been adjusted to the maximum upward position it may help
to adjust the flag (metal sheet) downwards. If the alignment of the flag is
not successful, the flag must be filed! See next item and picture.
Version 1.0
Service-Bulletin No. 510 IOLMaster 6 / 10
7) If the flag has to be filed (in case if File here!
the alignment does not lead to a
proper range) remove the flag and
file as the picture shows. Replace
the flag and take care to a properly
realign. Do not tilt the flag while
aligning.
CAUTION !
If the sledge-motor adjustment (speed, oscillation) can’t be done as
required above, the installation of the software-version 5.02 must
be aborted. In that case the software-version 4.08 must be installed
instead. The update-CD contains this software.
Please install version 4.08 as described in section 4 – file-name is
“setup-IOLM-V408.exe”.

6. Calibration procedure for the Keratometer-aid
CAUTION !
The Keratometer adjustment aid (traffic light display) is only
allowed to be used, if both, the calibration process was successful
AND the spot sizes of the Keratometer–LED’s are in the required
range of 50 - 55!
Note!
If the calibration – dialog does not appear automatically, your IOLMaster
Keratometer aid has already been calibrated. In that case you can go on
with section 6 item 9).
Version 1.0
Service-Bulletin No. 510 IOLMaster 8 / 10
5) Focus the spots by
moving the joystick in that
direction where the image
becomes sharper. Move
further in the same
direction until the spots
appear blurry again.
Note!
If the software is unable to perform the calibration (message described
under item 8 is repeatedly displayed), the cause may be inadequate
room lighting. It is recommended that the front panel and test eye be
shielded from direct or lateral light. The best results will be obtained
when the examination room is slightly darkened.
9) After the calibration process was
successful, it’s of vital importance that the
spot size of the Keratometer-LED’s be
checked. Therefore run the “Service-
Mode”, go to “KER”-tab and check the
“spot size”. The value must lie within a
range between 50 – 55.
Version 1.0
Service-Bulletin No. 510 IOLMaster 9 / 10
Caution!
If the value is either less than 50 or greater than 55, the illumination of
the Keratometer-LED’s must be increased or decreased respectively!
See the IOLMaster Service-Manual for detailed procedure.
Note!
In case of any change at the Keratometer illumination has been made,
the entire calibration process must be repeated!
Uncheck the “adjustment aid calibrated” – check box in the “KER-tab”
(Calibration-password for Service-Mode will be needed) and change to
the Keratometer-Mode again by clicking the appropriate icon or pressing
the <K> key after closing the Service-Mode.
CAUTION !
If the calibration of the Keratometer-aid can’t be done as required
above, the installation of the software-version 5.02 must be
aborted. In that case the software-version 4.08 must be installed
instead. The update-CD contains also this software.
Please install version 4.08 as described in section 4 – file-name is
“setup-IOLM-V408.exe”.
7. Miscellaneous
1) After completing the update, the related data-file for the sledge-motor speed and
oscillation must be saved and sent to the Service Department of Carl Zeiss Meditec. The
filename is “vmess_hsb2.dat” and located in the C:\ partition (main-root). Re-name the
file in the format “vmess_hsb2_SN821419” before sending (serial-number 821419
added for example).
Alternatively the data-sheet can be printed (use the print button at the speed-test-screen
– see section 5 / item 4). Write down the serial-number on the print before sending.
Email-address: mailto:czm.service@meditec.zeiss.com.
Fax: +49 3641 220 432
Please mention the S/N of the related IOLMaster in the head-line as well.
2) The check of the sledge-motor (speed and oscillation – see section 5) is from now on a
required “to-do” at the annual safety check procedure for all IOLMaster with software-
version 5.02 and higher.
The file or print of the sledge-motor-data (see details above) has to be recorded /
archived in the history of the related equipment.
