UNDERSTANDING
• Ex: instead of accepting/being with/addressing
depression, one seeks a dua from the Imam to remove the
depression and/or increase their iman.
• Often stemming from the wrong belief that a person with
strong iman would not get depressed.
• It is “both and”, not either or. We need to work on
ourselves AND make dua/pray, etc.
“Innaa lillahi wa innaa ilaihi raaji’uun”.
“Dan sungguh akan Kami berikan cobaan kepadamu, dengan sedikit ketakutan,
kelaparan, kekurangan harta, jiwa dan buah-buahan. Dan berikanlah berita
gembira kepada orang-orang yang sabar, (QS. Al-Baqarah: 155) (yaitu) orang-
orang yang apabila ditimpa musibah, mereka mengucapkan: “Innaa lillahi wa
innaa ilaihi raaji’uun”. (QS. Al-Baqarah: 156) Mereka itulah yang mendapatkan
keberkahan yang sempurna dan rahmat dari Rabbnya, dan mereka itulah orang-
orang yang mendapat petunjuk.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 157)

Ibnu Qayyim Al-Jauziyah mengklasifikasi usia manusia menjadi 4 (empat) periode, yaitu:
1. Masa Anak-Anak (Aulad): Usia 0 - 15 tahun, Fase menumbuhkan fitrah, menanamkan adab, mengajarkan ilmu fardu ain (basic knowledge for Life)
2. Masa Pemuda (Syabab) : Usia 15 - 40 tahun, Fase menemukan panggilan pertama (first calling) atau tugas langit atau misi hidup.
3. Masa Dewasa (Kuhul): Usia 40 - 60 tahun, Fase menemukan tugas langit berikutnya (next calling)
4. Masa Tua (Syuyukh): >60 tahun, Fase menyiapkan warisan perjuangan (legacy)

(QS 7:172) ﺳتُ ِﺑ َر ِﺑّ ُﻛ ْم ۖ ﻗَﺎﻟُوا ﺑَﻠَ ٰﻰ ۛ ﺷ َِﮭ ْدﻧَﺎ ۛ أ َ ْن ﺗَﻘُوﻟُوا ﯾَ ْو َم ْ َﺳ ِﮭ ْم أَﻟ
ِ ُﻋﻠَ ٰﻰ أ َ ْﻧﻔ

َ ﻏﺎﻓِ ِﻠ
ﯾن َ ا ْﻟ ِﻘﯾَﺎ َﻣ ِﺔ إِﻧﱠﺎ ُﻛﻧﱠﺎ ﻋ َْن ٰ َھ َذا
Dan (ingatlah), ketika Tuhanmu mengeluarkan keturunan anak-anak Adam dari sulbi mereka
dan Allah mengambil kesaksian terhadap jiwa mereka (seraya berfirman): "Bukankah Aku ini
Tuhanmu?" Mereka menjawab: "Betul (Engkau Tuhan kami), kami menjadi saksi". (Kami
ALLAH, MANUSIA, ILMU lakukan yang demikian itu) agar di hari kiamat kamu tidak mengatakan: "Sesungguhnya
kami (bani Adam) adalah orang-orang yang lengah terhadap ini (keesaan Tuhan)",

Ingatlah ketika Tuhanmu berfirman kepada para Malaikat:
"Sesungguhnya Aku hendak menjadikan seorang khalifah di muka bumi".
Mereka berkata: "Mengapa Engkau hendak menjadikan (khalifah) di bumi
itu orang yang akan membuat kerusakan padanya dan menumpahkan
darah, padahal kami senantiasa bertasbih dengan memuji Engkau dan
mensucikan Engkau?" Tuhan berfirman: "Sesungguhnya Aku mengetahui
apa yang tidak kamu ketahui".
And when your Lord said to the angels: “Indeed, I will make a vicegerent
upon the earth.” They
said: “Will you place upon it one who will cause corruption therein, and
will shed blood, while we
glorify Your praise and sanctify You.” He said: “Surely, I know that
which you know not.”

The Happiness
“God brought the cosmos from non-existence which is evil, only for the good
which He desired for it, and that is nothing but existence. Hence the cosmos
exists fundamentally for felicity, and it will reach its property in the end.”
He goes further to state, “God created the cosmos only for felicity in its essence.”
This assertion also implies that God has placed us in such a cosmos in order to
be happy. He wants us to be happy if we submit ourselves to Him and live
according to the realit of our primordial nat re ( fit ah ̣ ), which we still hear
deep in our souls, and to fulfill the purpose for which we were created.
Lest one think that this knowledge that leads to happiness is not bound with
love, Ibn ‘Arabı̄ also emphasizes the central role of love in the attainment of real
happiness.
“God will bring a people whom He loves and who love Him.”
ۤٗﺳ ۡوف ﯾَ ۡﺎ ِﺗﻰ ﱣ ِﺑﻘَ ۡو ٍم ﯾ ِﱡﺣﺑﱡ ُﮭ ۡم وﯾُ ِﺣﺑﱡ ۡوﻧَﮫ

SAQOWAH SA’ADAH
Kebahagiaan adalah kepastian (yaqien)

On the day it comes, no soul shall speak save by His Leave. Among them shall be the wretched (shaqiy) and the felicitous (sa‘ıd̄ ).”
(QS Hūd [11]: 105)
The Prophets also suffered but they know themselves, the meaning and
purpose of life and where are they heading so their suffering is not a kind
of shaqawāh (unhappiness) because they knew their stations (maqāmat).

Ibn ‘Āshūr links maqāṣid with this concept of fitrah, quotes the Qur’ānic verse discussed earlier (30:30), and
concludes that both Shari‘ah and its maqāsid are in harmony with fitrah. For Ibn ‘Āshūr, fitrah also refers to
the natural disposition (khilqah) and the natural order (nizām) that God has instilled in every
created being.
