Unit 3
Game
Students play in teams. The teacher gives each team a set of story starter cards and a list of
ten verbs and ten adjectives. A student in team A turns over the story starter card and reads
it to the group. Team A then continue the story by creating a new sentence using either one
of the verbs (in the past simple or past continuous) or one of the adjectives. Once a verb or
adjective has been used it must be crossed off the list and not used again. The sentences
have to be grammatically correct. Each correct sentence gets one point. Then team B
continue the story. If a student makes a mistake or cannot continue, the round ends and the
other team turns over a new story card. The game ends when there are no more cards or
after five minutes. The group with the most points at the end wins the game.

Sample story starter cards:

Late one night, … We were walking home yesterday …

One lovely summer’s day, … We were enjoying a picnic in the park …

Last winter, … I was on holiday with my parents …

Sample verbs and adjectives:

run beautiful
shine golden
pour strong
float happy
freeze worried
sit bright
shout giant
play quick
fall powerful
offer special

e.g. ► Team A, a student turns over the following story starter card:
We were enjoying a picnic in the park …

► Team A: ... one bright sunny day.

► Team B: The sun was shining and a light breeze was blowing.
