Overview - BWF
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is the world governing body for the sport and has its
headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Badminton has been an Olympic Games sport since the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992 and
a sport on the Paralympic programme since 2014. The BWF has 198 Members responsible for
regulating and developing badminton in their territory.
Continental Confederations administer, manage and develop the sport together with the
national federations in their region. There are five Continental Confederations: - Badminton
Africa, Badminton Asia, Badminton Europe, Badminton Oceania, Badminton Pan America
The BWF, its Members and Continental Confederations work together in a coordinated
approach to the development of the sport worldwide.
The BWF Council is responsible for providing policy and administrative guidance and oversees
the day-to-day operations of the Federation between Annual General Meetings (AGMs). The
Council is appointed by the AGM for a four-year term.
The Secretary General, responsible for day-to-day operations, is accountable to the Council.

Position Overview
Overall Duties Reporting to and working closely with the Secretary General, the
Events Director provides expertise and leadership in Major Event and
BWF World Tour planning (BWF Events), including all areas of event
management / operations.
Overall responsible for the quality of BWF events, the Events Director
is responsible for ensuring all BWF Events are planned and delivered
to the highest levels of professionalism and with all technical and
commercial requirements. This includes the technical delivery, the
overlay and look & feel, television production, sponsorship obligations
and sponsor servicing.
Special focus of the Events director should be to ensure high level and
appropriate conditions for participating players in BWF Events.
The Events Director should work closely with all Tournament hosts to
optimize the outcome of events delivery.

Responsibilities
1. Coordinating the day-to-day work in the Events Department in its preparation and
planning for BWF and BWF sanctioned events:
• Support the scope of work for the Events Department and ensure this is carried
out efficiently and accurately – including key processes - sanctioning, BWF

• Drive the development of annual work plans in line with the BWF Strategic Plans.
• Develop the annual budget for the events area.
• Implement the approved annual work plans and monitor performance.
• Monitor the Council approved budget - ensure expenditure is within approved
budget.
3. Working with the host associations/LOCs or BWF Major Championships and BWF World
Tour tournaments ensuring:
• BWF Events are planned and delivered to highest standards and all contractual
obligations are met.
• LOCs deliver BWF Major Championships and BWF World Tour Tournaments to
the required standards and meet each of the contractual obligations for BWF
Sponsors.
• Be on-site at key events and use key checklists to confirm compliance and
quality.
• Monitor the Event as it is being delivered ensuring that the minimum quality
standards are met.
• Monitor all sponsor obligations ensuring they are consistently being delivered
throughout the Event.
• Gather documents for the Event Report, write this and circulate.

Qualities / Attributes
The successful candidate will have excellent written and spoken English language skills, be a
good planner, have excellent organisational skills and be an effective communicator with good
interpersonal skills.
You will have been involved in sport event operations and management, and have
comprehensive knowledge around technical event delivery, commercial, marketing and
media/broadcast delivery areas.
Having worked in a multi-cultural environment will be an advantage. The candidate must have
experience and have personal management skills to manage the BWF multi-cultural staff team
and interact with event organising teams.
Having experience around contractual/legal areas and/or worked with contract development
and the legal events/commercial area would be a significant advantage.

Candidates for the position will require a range of personal and professional skills to be

Remuneration
Negotiated with the successful candidate dependant on qualifications and experience, but
appropriate to remuneration of high quality candidates.
An expected remuneration should be stated in the application.
Contract
A contract period will be offered to the successful candidate. Length of the contract to be
discussed.
Performance appraisals, against mutually agreed performance objectives will be a regular part
of employment.
Hours of Work
The position is contracted and full time. The nature of the work requires flexibility during busy
periods and will involve work on weekends and at times during holidays. The position will also
require travel overseas. No time in lieu arrangement exist for additional hours worked. The
remuneration package will reflect experience, the extent of the role, level of responsibilities
and the work requirements needed.
