2023/24 House Committee Induction

2024 RESIDENCE ORIENTATION WEEK

I, the undersigned, hereby commit to actively engage in the house committee training
programme, pledging to participate fully without causing disruptions. Furthermore, I
accept responsibility for the coordination of orientation activities specific to new first
year undergraduate students (herein referred to as “Freshers”) of my residence during
the 2024 Orientation Weeks (herein referred to as “the O-Week”).

I UNDERTAKE:
1. to fully participate in the induction training program without causing any disruptions.

2. to honour the Code of Conduct of the University and observe the General Rules
for Student Conduct.

3. not to personally engage in or encourage or force any person to participate in

any activity or action that is or may be demeaning, insulting, degrading,
intimidating, threatening, disrespectful, racist, sexist, dangerous, inappropriate,
hateful, or that may bring any person or the University into disrepute.

4. I specifically undertake –

A. to accept the duty of care that comes with the responsibility that I have accepted.

B. not to keep Freshers past midnight or wake them up before 05:00 without
prior consultation and approval by the residence wardens.
C. not to reprimand any Fresher in a manner that is demeaning, insulting,
degrading, intimidating, threatening, disrespectful or in any other way
inappropriate.

D. not to intentionally disrupt any legitimate activity done by other House Committees
of other residences.
 E. not to formally address Freshers while intoxicated and not to go clubbing and
drinking alcohol while wearing the house committee uniform/regalia.

F. to be respectful of the lawful and reasonable instructions from members of Wits

staff.

G. to encourage Freshers to attend the official University orientation programme,

H. not to subject Freshers to other activities/ practices other than the ones
approved by the University.

I. to uphold the dignity and reputation of the University, and to respect others,
always.

I understand and accept that any contravention of the above or of any rule of the
University may result in formal disciplinary action being taken against me.
