SOLAR

SYSTEM
SOLAR SYSTEM
❖The sun is a star that is a massive hot gas that gives us heat and light
❖Every substance in the solar system revolves around the sun
❖There is a total of 8 planets that orbit around the sun
❖Mercury is the closest planet of sun, and Neptune is the farthest one
❖Jupiter is the giant planet and the smallest planet is Mercury
❖Earth only has a supportive environment for living creatures
❖For a complete rotation the Earth takes one day
❖For completing one circle, Earth takes 365 days around the sun. It is what
we call a year
❖Due to gravity, we all can stick to the surface of the Earth
❖Moon orbits around the Earth, not the sun
SUN
❖ Sun is a yellow dwarf star
positioned in the center of
our solar system.
❖ Sun is the source of light and
energy to our planet earth.
❖ Many scientists claim that
the sun is supposed to be
4.603 billion years old.
❖ Sun is mainly composed of
hydrogen and helium gases.
MERCURY
❖ Mercury is the smallest planet
❖ It is the closest planet to the sun
❖ Mercury does not have any moons and rings
❖ Mercury is the second hottest planet
❖ Mercury is the first planet in the solar system
❖ It does not experience any season
❖ It has a weak magnetic field
❖ After Earth, mercury is the second densest planet
❖ It’s orbit around the sun takes 87.97 days
❖ It has a large metallic core with a radius 1289
miles
VENUS
❖ Venus is the second planet from the sun
❖ A day on Venus is longer than a year
❖ It is the second brightest natural object in the
night sky after the moon
❖ The rocks are various shapes of grey and appear
to be similar to those of earth
❖ Venus is covered in valleys, mountains and tens of
thousands of volcanoes
❖ The atmosphere of Venus is mostly made up of
carbon dioxide and has clouds of sulfuric acid
❖ In Venus there is no temperature between day
and night
❖ It is the only slightly smaller than Earth
❖ Venus has no moon and rings
❖ Venus is the only planet in the solar system that
rotates in opposite direction
EARTH
❖ Earth is a planet that revolves around the sun in our solar
system
❖ It is the only known planet in the universe that supports life
❖ Earth is also known as the blue planet as it looks blue from
space because of seas
❖ More than 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water
❖ Around 30% of Earth’s surface is land. All the humans, trees
and land animals live in this 30% area
❖ Earth has three layers – crust, mantle and core
❖ Earth has four main seasons – Summer, winter, autumn and
spring
❖ Earth has an atmosphere which consists of nitrogen, oxygen
and other gases. This atmosphere acts like a blanket and
keeps harmful radiations from the sun away from us
❖ There are hundreds of important elements in the inner
surface of the Earth. eg. Gold, silver, iron, diamond,
petroleum. etc.
❖ We should always save the Earth as it is our mother land
MARS
❖Mars is the fourth planet from the sun
❖Mars is sometimes called the red planet
❖It does not have a magnetic field
❖It’s red because of rusty iron on the
ground
❖It’s a terrestrial planet
❖It has a thin atmosphere
❖One day on mars lasts 24.6 hours
❖Mars has two moons
❖Earth and Jupiter are mar’s
neighbouring countries
❖Mars has the largest dust storms in the
solar system
JUPITER
❖Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system
❖It is the fifth planet from the sun
❖Jupiter also spins faster than any other planet
❖Jupiter has rings
❖It has strongest magnetic field
❖It has 67 moons
❖Jupiter has the shortest day of all planets
❖Jupiter is also twice as massive as all the other
planets combined
❖Galileo galilei is the first astronomer to have
observed Jupiter through his telescope
SATURN
❖ Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun
❖ It is second largest planet in the solar system
❖ Saturn takes about 10.7 hours to rotate on it’s own
axis
❖ It is a gas gaint planet
❖ It’s atmosphere is made up mostly of hydrogen (H2)
and Helium (He)
❖ Saturn has the most spectacular ring system with
seven rings
❖ Saturn cannot support life
❖ The most common nickname for Saturn is ‘ The Ringed
Planet’
❖ Saturn is the least dense planet
❖ Saturn has been visited by four spacecraft
URANUS
❖Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun
❖It is the coldest planet
❖It is the second least dense planet
❖The atmosphere of Uranus contains “ices”
❖Uranus has 27 moons
❖It’s not visible to the naked eye
❖Uranus has two sets of very then dark coloured
rings
❖Only one spacecraft has flown by Uranus
❖It is the third largest planet
❖Uranus was discovered in 1781
NEPTUNE
❖ Neptune is the eight and last planet from the sun
❖ It is a gas giant
❖ It is the fourth largest planet and third heavier
❖ It has four rings
❖ Neptune is seventeen times heavier than Earth and is a
little bit heavier than Uranus
❖ It’s atmosphere is mostly made up of Hydrogen and
Helium
❖ It also contains a small amounts of methane which the
planet appear blue
❖ Neptune was discovered by the astronomers Urbain Le
Verrier and John Couch Adams
❖ Neptune spins on its axis very rapidly
❖ Neptune has a very active climate
