Dear Royal Vale School Parents,

As we usher in December, a season of giving and goodwill, we are excited to announce that Royal Vale
School will be hosting a school-wide fundraiser for the NDG Food Depot starting this Friday, December
01, 2023, and running through to December 22, 2023.

In previous years, our community has generously contributed canned goods and non-perishable food
items. However, given the evolving protocols for handling and delivering food, particularly the need for
a steady supply, food banks are now requesting monetary donations instead. This shift allows for
greater flexibility and ensures that those in need receive well-balanced and healthy meals, along with
essential supplies.

Why are we holding a Fundraiser for The Depot?

The Depot, a non-profit organization founded in 1986, has a mission to bring people together to grow,
cook, share, and advocate for "Good Food for ALL." They offer a diverse range of programs, including
emergency food baskets, community meals, cooking and nutrition workshops, collective gardens, green
workshops, and social support services.

Unlike traditional food banks, The Depot no longer accepts food donations. Instead, they use monetary
contributions to purchase bulk food items. Remarkably, for every dollar donated to our Fresh Food
Fund, The Depot can acquire three dollars' worth of locally sourced, fresh, and nutritious foods,
including fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, meats, and everyday staples.

Our fundraising goal is set at $1500, which will empower The Depot to fund a variety of impactful
initiatives. This includes seeds and plants for a season in one of the Depot’s collective gardens, a
community kitchen workshop for local seniors, a month of healthy food purchases for their drop-in meal
program, and the delivery of food baskets to those in need.

food security issues in NDG and the surrounding areas. Your contribution will make a significant impact,
helping to foster a sense of community and ensure that everyone has access to nourishing meals.
