Finish the sentence: “Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend.” (SC 93)

1. What happens to those who neglect prayer? (SC 94)

ANS: The darkness of the evil one encloses those who neglect to pray.

2. How does God sometimes answer our prayers when we ask for something that would
not be a blessing? (SC 96)

ANS: Sometimes we ask for something that would not be a blessing, yet God in love
answers our prayers by giving us that which will be for our highest good--that which
we ourselves would desire if with vision divinely enlightened we could see all things as
they are.

3. Under what circumstance only can we expect mercy and blessing from God when we
pray? (SC 97)

ANS; We can only expect mercy and blessings from God when we have a spirit of love and
forgiveness in our hearts.

4. If we keep close to God, what will happen when unexpected trials come? (SC 99, 100)

ANS: If we keep close to God, our thoughts will turn to Him whenever unexpected trials
come.

5. When we neglect association with others in Christian fellowship, how does it affect our
Christian experience? (SC 101)

ANS: They loose the subject matter of prayer and have no incentive to devotion. Their
prayers become personal and selfish. They cannot pray in regard to the wants of
humanity or the upbuilding of Christ’s kingdom, pleading for strength wherewith to
work.

6. Why do you think God has not removed the possibility of doubt? (SC 105)
ANS: God has never removed the possibility of doubt. Our faith must rest upon
evidence, not demonstration.

7. Finish the statement: “Our faith must rest upon evidence, not demonstration_. (SC 105)

8. Why is it that created beings will never have a full understanding of God and His
works? (SC 109)

ANS: Created beings will never have a full understanding of God and His works because
there would be for them no further discovery of truth, no growth in knowledge, no further
development of mind and heart. God would no longer be supreme.

9. In what way may we receive greater light and understanding? (SC 111)

ANS: Give heed to the light that already shines upon you, and you will receive greater
light. Perform every duty that has been made plain to your understanding by the grace
of God.

10. How might we delight Satan? (SC 116)

ANS; Satan is exultant when he can lead the children of God into unbelief and despondency.

11. What double harm is done by talking about doubts? (SC 119)

ANS: If you talk out your feelings, every doubt you express not only reacts upon
yourself, but it is a seed that will germinate and bear fruit in the life of others.
12. Summarize how we should imitate Christ. (SC 120, 121)
ANS: The life of those who imitate Him will be full of earnest purpose, have a deep sense
of personal responsibility, levity repressed, no boisterous merriment, no rude jesting,
but a peaceful deportment of character.

13. What assurance do we have regarding trials? (SC 125)

ANS: In view of the glorious inheritance, we have the assurance because Christ overcame all
these trials we have the power through Him.
