COURSE OVERVIEW:

The AP Italian Language & Culture course offers social, cultural, academic, and workplace benefits that will
serve students throughout their lives. The proficiencies acquired through the study of Italian endow language
learners with cognitive, analytical, and communication skills that carry over into many other areas of their
academic studies.

The purpose of the course is to bring Italy into the classroom, immersing the student in the general culture of
Italy emphasizing customs, history, literature, music & art. Appreciation of cultural and global issues will also be
covered.

One of the goals of the AP class is to prepare you for the AP exam that will take place in May 2024.
The AP Italian Language and Culture course emphasizes communication (understanding and being understood
by others) by applying speaking, writing, listening, reading skills in real-life situations.
To best facilitate the study of language and culture, the course is taught almost exclusively in Italian. Students
are expected to speak in Italian as well.

CLASS SUPPLIES:
To successfully complete this course, students ae expected to bring the following supplies to class each day:
 an Italian /English dictionary
 one binder with 4 dividers with pockets.
The binder needs to be divided with the following labels:
Grammatica, Lessico, Cultura, Attivita’

GRADING:
Grades are based on assessments, projects, homework assignments, binder checks and participation. A lower
grade will be given for any work not submitted on the assigned due date.

A – 90 -100
B – 80 – 89
C – 70 – 79
D – 60 – 69
F - 0 - 59

CLASSROOM RULES
RULE
1 Adherence to Mater Academy Middle / High
School ‘s Code of Conduct with regards to
behavior, dress code and attendance is
expected.
2 Respect yourself and others. No profanity or
abusive language towards the teacher or
classmates will be used. No insubordinate
behavior will be tolerated. If you have a
complaint or concern, please see me after class.
3 You will be in your seats and ready to work when
the bell rings. If you are not in a seat when the
bell rings you are tardy.
4 You will respect your classmate’s right to learn
by refraining from talking while class is in
session.
5 Time given in class for assignments should be
used for that and nothing else.
6 You are responsible for makeup work if you are
absent. Check with the teacher or another
student in your class to find out what you missed
7 Sleeping or heads down on the desk will not be
permitted during class. If you do not feel well or
need to go to the clinic, please let me know.
8 No electronic devices will be permitted in class.
All cellular telephones must be turned off.

CONSEQUENCE
Any violation of this code will result in the
consequences stated in the Code of Conduct.
If you use profanity or abusive language in
class, your parents will be called, and you will
be given a detention.
If you are consistently tardy the school
discipline plan will be followed with
consequences.
If you talk while the teacher is talking or a
student is asking/answering a question you are
disruptive to the class. Two verbal warnings
will be given to you prior to moving you to a
permanent seat for the rest of the year.
If you are working on something else other
than the course work, the material will be
confiscated and returned to you the next day.
You will have four days to make up any missed
work; you will not be given credit if the
makeup assignment is turned in after 4 days.
After giving you two verbal warnings, I will
notify your parents of your inattentive behavior
and then administration.
If you use an electronic device or cellular
telephone in class, they will be confiscated and
will be returned to the parents by the office
personnel.
9 No restroom passes will be given during the first
10 and last 10 minutes of class.
