The Rule Of Three:
The rule of three is a writing principal and a structural device in political rhetoric. It suggests
that things that come in three are aesthetically pleasing or more effective than other numbers
things. Using the Rule of Three allows you to emphasize your points and increase the
memorability of your message.

Example:
In Islam accomplishing certain tasks in odd numbers is significant for instance wudu. In
wudu hand arms face and feet are all washed 3 times. In salat many prayers are repeated three
times. Divorce (talaq) has to be repeated three times.
Imam Tirmidhi mentions a hadith in which Nabi(SAW) is reported to have said certainly
ALLAH is odd and loves that which is odd
In another hadith Nabi (SAW) emphasized on the importance of mother in following words
and manner:
Narrated by Abu Hurayrah
A man came to the Messenger of Allah (PBH)and said :
O Messenger of Allah! who among the people is most deserving of my company?
He said:
‘Your mother’
The man asked then who?
He said:
‘Your mother’
Man asked then who?
He said:
‘Your mother’
The man asked again then who?
He said, ‘then your father’
The rule of three is influential outside the realm of Islam as well. Goodman has looked at the
predominance of triads, threes, and Eternal triangles in cultures from all over the world. The
rule of three is also a frequently used technique in literature as well, and many writers have
used it from Greeks to Shakespeare and from Shakespeare to up till now.
EUPHEMISM
It is figure of speech.it is a mild or indirect word or expression substituted for something
considered to be harsh or blunt. Euphemism is commonly used when talking about taboo
topics such as death or rape.
Euphemism is a tool in the hands of politicians and diplomats, and they use it to fullest of
their abilities either to divert the attention of people from grave matters, or to lure people
towards their interest.
EXAMPLE
“On September 11, the enemies of freedom committed on act of war against our country.
Fellow citizens we’ll meet violence with patient justice-- assured of the rightness of our
cause and confident over the victories to come”
(G.W BUSH: 22 Sept.2001)

In this fragment of his speech after the incident of 9/11 the then president of US used
euphemism for those who attacked the World Trade Centre and an assurance of patient
justice, which was fully revealed later to the world.
