CV Reply:Refer Annexure-B for reduction in tensile stress area.
(7) Anchor bolt root area shall be as per project standard drawing confirmation shall be obtained from
CV, If root area not specified in project standard drawing, in that case same shall be obtained from CV.
(8) Anchor bolt size and Qnty. as per below snap for Skirt supported vessel & Column
Material – To be provided by CV. In absence of details by CV the same shall be as per Anchor bolt.
Allowable stress – To be provided by CV. In absence of details by CV the same shall be as per Anchor bolt.
Allowable bearing Concrete Stress fc = 10800 kPa (for fully supported base plate)
Ultimate compressive stress f’c= 30 MPa (ultimate 28 day strength concrete)
Ladder Live Load shall be Considered as 1.5 kN (As per Cl.4.4.2 of SBC301)
The bolt embedment, edge distance and spacing shall be in accordance with the strength
provisions of ductile design, but shall not be less than the following dimensions:
a. Embedment : 12 x bolt diameter
b. Minimum Edge Distance : 4 x bolt diameter or 115 mm for ASTM A36 bolts.
: 6 x bolt diameter or 115 mm for high strength and torqued bolts.
: 4 x bolt diameter or 150 mm for machinery foundations.
c. Minimum Bolt Spacing : 4 x bolt diameters for untorqued anchors.
: 6 x bolt diameters for torqued anchors
When anchor sleeves are used, the minimum dimensions mentioned above should be modified
as follows:
a. Edge distance should be increased by an amount equal to half the sleeve diameter minus
half the anchor diameter.
b. Embedment length should not be less than the larger of 12 x bolt diameter or the sleeve
length plus 6 x bolt diameter.
c. Spacing between the anchors should be increased by an amount equal to the difference
between the sleeve diameter and the anchor diameter.

The limiting tension on a rod is based on the minimum area along the maximum stressed length of that
rod. For an anchor rod, this is typically within the threaded portion (except when upset rods are used).
ANSI/ASME B1.1 defines this threaded area as
