2.5. Installation Location
The components of the Savant Power Storage 20 shall be installed in a location that is suitable for use. Installing the system in a manner inconsistent
with the guidance given below may void system warranty. The following items should be considered when installing the Savant Power Storage 20:
– The Savant Power Storage 20 is built with NEMA 4X enclosure, enabling outdoor install locations. Choose an installation area where ambient
temperature remains between 32°F to 114°F (0°C to 46°C) and out of direct sunlight. Exposing the system to temperatures outside of this range
can negatively impact the longevity of the equipment and will void the warranty.
– Choose a flat, horizontal foundation against a wall without potential exposure to overhead water sources, snow accumulation or flooding.
IMPORTANT! Concrete anchors are included with each system to allow the system to be secured to the foundation.
– Reserve enough space for maintenance requirement for each side of the unit.
– Ensure enough clearance around the system and space between multiple Savant Power Storage 20 units to correspond with National Electric
Code (NEC) and local requirements.

3.2. Mounting the System

The following installation instructions are for a right-entry (PS20-BATT-20KWH-ENCL-XX) cabinet. For parallel systems, a left-entry (PS20-BATT-
20KWH-ENCL-LEFT-XX) cabinet may be used where batteries are inserted from the opposite side.

CAUTION!
– Dust collection required during drilling.
– Make sure the cabinet is firmly on the floor. The wall bracket is only designed to keep the battery system from tipping forward and cannot
support the weight of the battery.

1. Open the battery enclosure with a PH2 Philips screwdriver and remove the accessories kit.
2. Assemble the bracket as shown using M5x12 screws.
3. Attach the bracket to the back side of the battery system with M5x12 machine screws. Torque: 44 lb-in (5 N*m).

4. (OPTIONAL, Per Local Code) Drill a 0.5 in (25mm) hole with a 2 in (50mm) depth. Embed the anchor expansion bolts and affix the cabinet to
the ground. Use included cardboard template and take note of spacing between unit and wall to allow for the bracket.

5. Install bracket and battery system on the wall with M6x50 tapping screws.
NOTE: If installing on a concrete wall, properly drill into the wall with M6x50 expansion anchor screws.

6. Remove the battery seal cap (BAT/COM) on the bottom of Savant Power Inverter.

7. Hang the inverter on the bracket.

1. Make all grid, generator and load connections as shown in the single line diagrams in Appendix: Single Line Diagrams.

NOTE: Savant Power Inverter includes a built-in RSD transmitter. Please contact Savant for supported models of RSD receivers. If the Savant
Power Storage 20 is placed near the main panel, the PV disconnect (PV switch) on the Savant Power Inverter can be used as an RSD Initiation
Device.
If the Savant Power Storage 20 is placed far from the main panel, it is recommended to use the Emergency Switch as an RSD Initiation Device.

CAUTION! In areas with frequent lightning storms, a Class 2 SPD (Surge Protection Device) shall be installed in front ends of both Solar
and Grid inputs.

3.7.2 AC Coupled Solar Wiring
The Savant Power Storage 20 enables easy integration of a grid tied solar installation to enable continued solar production in a grid down scenario. It
is recommended to use a UL 1741SA compliant inverter when AC coupling into the Savant Power Storage 20.

CAUTION! Do not interconnect a generator to a system that is installed with AC Coupled solar attached as it can lead to damage to the
generator and inverter!

1. Land the output of the AC coupled solar inverter into the GEN input of the inverter or into the backed-up load center.
NOTE: The PS-INV-12.5KW-60A-XX model will only support AC coupling into the backed-up load center whereas the PS-INV-12.5KW-100A-XX
can support either location
NOTE: Paralleled systems should only have AC coupling into the GEN input of the inverter.

2. Use the Savant Power Storage app to program the parameters of the AC coupled system.

009-2401-00 | 090623 - 19 -
3.8. Parallel Systems
The Savant Power Storage 20 can support multi-unit installs with all units operating in parallel to increase the available power and storage for a
single site installation. The Appendix provides single line diagrams giving a high level overview of parallel system configuration.
NOTE: Systems with a model number ending in ‘NS’ do not support parallel configuration. Please contact Savant support for more information.

1. Wire internal components for all units in system in alignment with section 3.3.

2. Wire DC coupled solar to each unit independently.

NOTE: It is recommended to balance solar input across the systems used in a parallel configuration for optimal performance.

3. Combine the Load Output of all units at a single location before landing in the backed-up loads panel.

4. Connect CAT5 or CAT6 cable between the external RJ45 ports marked ‘Parallel’ between each inverter in the system.
NOTE: External Parallel ports are equivalent and can be used interchangeably.
5. Install the included resistors in the first and last system of the parallel install. Make sure to tighten the RJ45 port where resistors are installed.

6. Assign one of the units in the system as the “Leader” of the system. Additional systems will be designated as “Followers”.

7. Wire all optional accessories (generator auto-start, E-Stop Button, etc) to the Leader of each parallel installation. See more about accessories in
section 3.8.

3.9. Additional Accessories
Optional accessories are available to enable additional functionality with the Power Storage 20. Application and installation guidance for available
accessories is given below.

3.9.1 Emergency Stop

Depending on the location and number of ESS units installed, an external and single disconnecting means may be required to initiate rapid shut
down (RSD) of PV arrays and emergency stop of the ESS.
NOTE: Make sure RSD initiation device and ESS E-stop are labeled in accordance with NEC and AHJ requirements.

1. Choose a lockable, UL certified E-Stop button or switch with at least two normally closed (NC) contacts.

2. Connect one NC contact wire pair to the RSD I/O port.

3. Connect the second NC contact wire pair to the pins labeled DI1 and COM within the EMS GPIO.
NOTE: There is no polarity with these contacts. This simply functions as an off/on switch.

3.9.2 Acrel Meter
Meter Zero mode enables the Savant Power Storage 20 to power non-backed up loads to offset utility consumption while grid connected. Meter Zero
mode requires the use of an external power meter. The Acrel AGF-AE-D/200 meter used for this application must be purchase separately. Reach out
to Savant Support for more information.
