BIBLE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS CONCERNING MAN:

1. Is man mortal or immortal?

Job 4:17 - “Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure
than his maker?”

Romans 6:12 - “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should
obey it in the lusts thereof.”

Romans 8:11 - “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in
you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies
by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”

• Man is mortal. Who is immortal?

1 Timothy 6:14,15,16 - “That thou keep this commandment without spot,

unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he
shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of
lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can
approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and
power everlasting. Amen.”

• Only God hath immortality.

2. Can man be immortal?

Romans 2:6,7 - “Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them
who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and
immortality, eternal life:”

There are those seeking for immortality. Will they get it?

Romans 6:23 - “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The righteous will be made immortal.

1 John 5:11,12 - “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life,
and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not
the Son of God hath not life.”

Only those that receive Christ will be made immortal.

3. When will the righteous receive immortality?

1 Corinthians 15:51-57 - “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep,
but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last
trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible,
and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and
this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on
incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought
to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where
is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the
strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Men shall be made immortal at the last trump:

1 Thessalonians 4:16,17 - “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a
shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead
in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up
together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever
be with the Lord.”

Immortality is obtained of God at the second coming of Jesus.

4. Where do men go when they die?

Question: Job 14:10 - “But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the
ghost, and where is he?”

Heaven, hell or purgatory?

Ecclesiastes 9:3 - “This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that
there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and
madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.”
When men die they go to the dead. Where are the dead?

2 Kings 22:20 - “Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou
shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil
which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.”

They are in the grave.

Job 21:32 - “Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.”

5. What is the condition of man while he is in the grave?

Jo 14:10-12 - “But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost,
and where is he? As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth
up: So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall
not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.”

When man dies, he is asleep.

Job 3:13-19 - “For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have
slept: then had I been at rest, With kings and counsellors of the earth, which build
desolate places for themselves; Or with princes that had gold, who filled their
houses with silver: Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which
never saw light. There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at
rest. There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor. The
small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.”

When Lazarus dies, Jesus said that he was sleeping:

John 11:11-14 - “These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our
friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Then said
his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. Howbeit Jesus spake of his death:
but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. Then said Jesus unto
them plainly, Lazarus is dead.”

Acts 13:36 - “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of
God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:”
The above verse tells us that David fell on sleep, he died after serving his
generation by the will of God. Where is David now?

Acts 2:34 - “For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself,
The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,”

David is not in heaven, he is in:

1 Kings 2:10 - “So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of
David.”

David is sleeping in his grave.

6. What kind of sleep is this, do they dream?

Ecclesiastes 9:5,6,10 - “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead
know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of
them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now
perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done
under the sun. Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is
no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou
goest.”

Psalms 146:3,4 - “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom
there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very
day his thoughts perish.”

The dead are in a state of unconscious sleep. Their thoughts perish on the very
same day that they perish.

But the story does not end here, there is a resurrection:

1 Thessalonians 4:16,17 - “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a
shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead
in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up
together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever
be with the Lord.”
Psalms 17:15 - “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be
satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.”

John 5:28,29 - “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that
are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done
good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the
resurrection of damnation.”

7. Do the dead praise the Lord?

Question: Psalms 88:10-12 - “Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead
arise and praise thee? Selah. Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave?
or thy faithfulness in destruction? Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and
thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?”

Answer: Psalms 115:17 - “The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go
down into silence.”

Psalms 6:5 - “For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who
shall give thee thanks?”
